beneficiary surname misspelled on approved k1 visa

HI, I was approved and recently picked up my passport/visa from Loomis. I was checking over the visa to ensure all was correct and the 2nd thing I see is my surname (I being the beneficiary) is misspelled, in that it is missing the hyphen. My Canadian passport shows a hyphen .

I know that when filling in the online forms, hyphens were not allowed but was told that it would be corrected on intake. I had no issues at the Montreal US Consulate (at intake or at the interview itself.

Does anyone know if the listed telephone number (Phone (General): 514-398-9695) is picked up by a human? Or is there another number?

Question regarding non-immigrant visa applications:
montreal-niv@state.gov - > I believe K1 is a non immigrant visa so I sent an email here as well.

Thanks.

I'm not sure this is relevant but I am Canadian too and also have a hyphenated last name.

My GC has been approved and it also does not include the hyphen. When I ascked USCIS about it, they said that they do not consider it "incorrect" and that their documents do not contain the hyphen. I have travelled on the GC on several occasions and have never had any issues with the hyphen missing.

NYC10065, thanks for replying. I needed to be 200% certain as I did not want to show up at the POE and be denied. I mean, my bio page of my Cdn passport shows last-name then a few pages , it shows the k1 visa with last name.

This afternoon, I got a reply to my email and they said basically the same as what they said to my earlier ds160 form enquiry and as you - not incorrect as system does not allow hyphens. I was told that I won't be denied entry. I have printed out that response and will be taking it with me at the POE . :-) .

Good luck with it and I am 200% sure it won't be an issue. Like you, I was also worried that the lack of a hyphen would pose a problem so I pushed USCIS and my lawyer for an answer and the answer came back that they did not consider this an "error" at all. On my first trip using my GC, I was worried it would be so was prepared with all the documentation necessary but all I got was "Where do you live?" and then followed by "Welcome home".

:)

I could not get a hyphen in my US passport. They are not accepted, apparently, so instead I have a blank space. ;-)
