As soon as I saw the thug storng arming the store owner while stealing from him, that was enough for me. All of the other evidence that came later just reinforced my opinion that the guy was in fact a thug, and got what was coming to him regardless of his race.

Me too. That's not to say I think he should be shot for that alone. But it is to say I was far more inclined to believe that he was attacking the police officer which to me is something that justifies deadly force.

I think that's part of the problem. People are holding that incident up as a case of blatant police brutality, when there's no evidence of it. I gotta believe that there are real cases of racially motivated police violence out there. I doubt it's as prevalent as CNN and the race warriors want it to be, but I suspect it does exist.

Just FYI, when you talk about race wars and bring up these things in cases that have nothing to do with it, you're one of the race warriors you apparently can't stand.

Agree on both counts.

i think most people don't take the time to think for themselves before they latch on to a preformed opinion being fed to them. i mean, when i read you say "that thug had what's coming to him" or whatever.. i don't see how you could agree with me 100%. i've read a good deal about how that whole grand jury proceeding was botched. botched in a manner only the south knows how to pull off and come out looking justifed.

That's true of news media in a lot of countries. It's largely a passive process imo, where people draw conclusions from correlated headlines to see patterns in the world that don't exist. One example of this might be thinking that violent crime is commonplace because it features in the majority of news reporting (there's actually a fair amount of research on this)

There is a particular problem in the US broadcast media, where it is very active process in which the media is a form of propaganda. It's how for example a news station can hire guests as 'expert contributors' on a subject, make cartoonish ridiculous claims (like flight MH370 not being found because it took 2000 years to find Noahs Ark) and it not affect audience figures.

Its how people can listen to news reports and party political broadcasts during an election and then repeat verbatim partisan slogans as if they had somehow arrived at those conclusions through their own efforts rather than the reality - because it said so on TV.

Its why we have all these posters with ridiculous ideas about European systems of government and socialised healthcare. Ideology over facts.

His stance in this case was that it had nothing to do with race. That doesn't make him the same of someone who decides it is despite not having enough evidence to clearly support that claim.

Yep. They picked the wrong case as a rally cry.

I don't agree. But I can't have this conversation without being accused of being biased because of my skin color. Not to mention the completely opposite side of POV.

So by pointing out cases where there's no evidence of racism, that makes me a race warrior? Put down the kool aid man. That stuff will warp your mind.

FTR record, I'm not accusing you of being biased based on the color of your skin, I'm basing it on things you've posted here over the years. Beleive that.

So, what's needed to say it was racism? Do we have to have white sheets or the N-word?

You can use my white privilege card any time you want it. Not all of 'us people' here pretend to be blind to this sort of issue.

If you had a video of a white cop shooting an unarmed innocent black kid for just walking down the street, I'd say racism for sure. This one was a kid that assaulted a police office and got shot. That's cause and effect to me. And the evidence supports this claim. All we have is the evidence and we must decide based on what we know. Not what we assume.

Tell me then. Explain it to me, since my experience as a black person doesn't seem to matter.

Yeah well, neither can I.

You could, if you were open to what I'm trying to say.

The reason why most people don't see the racism in some things is because you're accustomed to racism as being this in your face thing. Like I said, it has to be a solid thing in order for you to call it racism. It doesn't matter that white criminals can go on killing sprees and be apprehended without incident, yet a black person can be gunned down for playing with a toy gun. Why a white guy can walk into a store with an automatic weapon on his back right after a mass shooting, but a black guy can't walk through the parking lot without being tackled by some dude because he has a legal handgun.

It's been long documented how black people are treated in regards to the law, even the law abiding ones are treated like we've broken the law. And what's the excuse? Well, you people commit more crime so we get to profile you.

What about Tamir Rice? Or John Crawford III? We have videos in those cases, do we get to claim racism?

If the rule is, assaulting a police officer warrants a death sentence, then why did Eric Frein, who shot and killed a state trooper then wounded another one, wasn't killed on sight?
