Married Filing Taxes while waiting for AOS

Hello all!

My husband and I are filing taxes together for the first time this year. I'm 25, and so have only filed taxes two times before this, and I'm a bit nervous about what I'm supposed to do exactly while filing for my husband!

He emigrated to the US in September, when we got married. He got his EAD at the end of December, and thus hasn't been able to find a job yet. So- he's unemployed, and was unemployed for most of 2014 while he was waiting for his visa to be approved (so he could leave for America asap).

How should I file for him? Do I list him as a dependent? Are there any step-by-step guides available for those of us filing while we wait for the AOS? He didn't make a lot of money last year in the UK to qualify for taxes (he made about $2000) but should I report that, even though he was only in the US for about 90 days total of 2014?

Sorry for all the questions- I'm a grad student and thus have very little to report myself in terms of earnings, and am relatively inexperienced with the whole tax procedure!

Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

OH and also- the open enrolment for Obamacare only opened in November last year, and it was for 2015, so I guess he wasn't covered for 2014 (but there's no way we could have enrolled him in it before then as he didn't have a SSN and it wasn't open) so will I be penalized? I have health insurance.

File Married Jointly and add all earnings together. Do he have W2s of his earnings? If he did not have insurance and you didn't apply, yes he will be penalized. I didn't qualify for insurance so I received an exemption letter and was waived from being penalized.

It was not in the US that he earned money. He earned it in the UK, so he doesn't have his w2s. It was for less than $2k, he paid taxes in the UK for it, and he was only in the U.S. for 90 days last year AFTER he earned the money.

Oh sorry didn't know he worked in the UK....U can file married and just use your earning
