A Canadian sniper has the record for the longest confirmed kill, however he made the shot with US ammo in his American made McMillan TAC-50.

Nope and it is now held using non US ammo Lapua.

My wife has a cousin in the Canadian armed forces. He's a really cool guy and spent some time in Afghanistan. He always has really nice things to say about the Americans he served with. But why would we return the favor. I mean, we're americans ya know?

While I was in the service I trained with quite a few international service member who were attached to our unit. I personally had nothing but good things to say about those service members (they are our allies in the end), and besides our Company Commander made sure we were respectful.

Interesting. I wonder how come that didn't make it to the History Channel, like the Canadian shot did. A google search does verify what you posted, from multiple sources.

Out of date or perhaps as History Channel is American and they gave the Canadian a pass?

To be fair, the Brit that made the shot didn't want the notoriety, fearing for his life, and did sue, when his name hit the press.

Lots of peaceful religious types in the UK....

Any soldier would have understood the book and movie whether they are Socialist scum or not. I just think of them as ignorant as they are so let them look down on heros as it is their right to do so. No one can understand soldiers except other military.

At the end of the day its a book and a movie. It's not a religious experience. It's interesting to note the language you use to describe this movie, suggesting that there's only one correct way to look at it etc and that any other opinion is somehow synonymous with treachery or disparaging the military - this is suggestive of someone conditioned by propaganda.

Its a movie. People either like it or they don't. Either way that's fine, isn't it. If they don't like it, it's their prerogative. It's irrational to berate people for it, let alone try to link not liking a work of fiction with not being patriotic.

Mad.

Edited to add, I don't expect a cogent response to this, or even any response at all really. Although it would be nice to be surprised by one.

How about this Finnish dude....most confirmed ever by anyone....but who's counting.

*Simo Häyhä (1905 – 2002), the White Death, a Finnish sniper who holds the record for highest number of confirmed sniper kills. Häyhä was credited with 505 kills of Soviet soldiers accomplished in fewer than 100 days during the Winter War.[22]

I think the history channel tidbit was before the new record. I remember seeing it too. but I can't remember if it was in an actual segment or one of those "before commercial facts" they do on modern marvels. God I love that show. Of course now I have to watch it on FYI or H2 sense history is all reality tv now. I miss the days when you could find a WW2 doc more often than not on the history channel

not really related but i recently watched the new patton oswald standup on netflix and in it he warns that a newly found persistant interest in ww2 documentaries/shows on the history channel is one of the first warning signs that middle age has arrived.

Well, I was quite interested in those back in high school. I guess I'm an over achiever.

Sad as it may be, there are many out there who can't make the transition back into civilian life once they served. Unfortunately they are well suited to follow orders and be told what to do and think, but fare rather poorly on their own in a civilian world. It's a type of PTSD that requires treatment but that goes unnoticed until it's too late. They deserve our gratitude for their service but also our compassion and hope that they find treatment. What's even worse, they actually believe jingoism to be an American value.
