Can anyone please guide me regarding a case that i want to file for my citizenship?

I am Adeel Y. Malik 28 from Karachi, Pakistan. I want to discuss my case with you and if possible need guidance.

Me and my whole family got Green Card in 1988 and my Mother got her citizenship in 1995-6, at that time when my mother got her citizenship I was about 10 years and legally I think at that time I was also legally eligible for my Passport. Unfortunately we didn't know the procedure and were unable to file a case.

Meanwhile I came back to Pakistan in 1995-6 and was unable to go back to the US due to some domestic problem.

Now me and my mom want to move back to US.

My sister who's in NY asked the US Counselor Lady about my procedure since she told her that we were already citizen, the Counselor Lady said and I quote " Your Brother is already a US Citizen, and he doesn't have to wait for your Mom or you to file a case for him he can file it himself ".

The Counselor also said something about a Law which was passed in 1986 or in 2001 about people born in 1986 about their citizenship and something like that. She also told my sister that it'll take 6 to 12 months for my case.

I'll be thankful to you if someone can please guide me as to what case should I file.

On the day your mother became a US citizen were all of the following true:

(i) You were an LPR.

(ii) You were under 18.

(iii) You were in the legal and physical custody of your mother.

If so, you automatically became a US citizen at the same moment she did under the auspices of the Child Citizenship Act (2000).

Find out if you were an LPR (green card holder) first. You will need a copy of it in order to proceed.

I have a soft copy of my green card.

I don't have the hard copy because 2 months back I applied for a visit visa which I was rejected and at that time the embassy asked me to give my green card as it was expired or something.

I have the form which I filled when they took my green card.
