Does anyone know if there's a great hairy line-up to get in to see this doctor?

Should I enquire at the doctor's now about wait times? (only waiting for pkt 3 atm)

Do I pay them the exam fee in USD or CAD?

Thanx for any help.

(I like to be prepared waaaaay waaaaay ahead) :)

My DR in halifax only accepted CDn cash (no cheques or credit cards) Why not just phone him and ask the questions?

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

When I called in early January for an appointment they had openings available the next week. He only accepts Cdn$. I waited for my packet 4 before going but I did go get all my shots up to date and my vaccination records before so at least that part was done (just call Calgary Health Region and they'll point you in the right direction).

I've found that many panel physicians in Montreal (never checked in Calgary) will accept plastic.

The charge will usually be in C$.

I went for the medical in Calgary. I called one day and got an appointment for the following week. He will only take Canadian Cash. There is no actuall line up as you see and hear about in other places. He is located in a plastic surgery place. The nurse will come out and get you. Ask a bunch of questions..then you show here you immunization records. The only one that I didn't have a current one of was Tetnus and that was free if you have Alberta Health Care.

From there she takes you to get weighed, quick eye exam. Then takes you to a room. Tells you to get undressed including Undies....and the doc comes in and does a very thorough exam. Gave my the shot. From there you will have to go to get your blood tests done, at a seperate clinic. Which can take a bit..clinic can be busy but they move pretty fast. Also you will have to go to a third location for your chest xray. Will take a few hours in total. Since you are going to 3 seperate locations in the city to do all this.

A couple of days later I called and they said my results were all in and I went and picked them all up..and Faxed off my checklist to Vancouver consulate and waited for my interview date. Goodluck.

When do you find out where all these various places are to get these tests done?

Am I expected to get all this done in one day?

Are all 3 of the places fairly easily accessible by Calgary Transit?

I am carless and know no one here who would drive me around to anywhere. I have lived in CGY only for a year and a half or so and am not familiar with pretty much anything that is here (came for work). I don't have a doctor. I go to a clinic on 17th Ave somewhere when I need something looked at. I live downtown, but on the south side of the tracks (Beltline, for those who know).

PS: Thank you everyone for your answers. Thank you especially to CanuckmeetsYank. Very informative and horribly clear at the same time. Oh, well: they'll be in my life for what?---45 minutes? S'okay. :-\

When you are at the doctor's office for your medical the nurse will give you a sheet with the different locations you can go to for the blood work and the chest x-ray. It's kind of a small somewhat hand drawn map. They are pretty helpful with directions and stuff too. You probably don't have to get it all done in one day but then it just takes longer for the doctor to get all the reports in from each place so he can put your results package together.

Honestly the whole medical thing, is not that bad. I have a terrible fear of doctors, and needles. I chose to have it all done in the sameday just to get it over with. The worst part was the physical, and that was mainly cause it was cold in the office..hehehe....he is really nice..doesn't talk much which is cool. Comes in does his thing...over in like 5 minutes. Then you talk with the nurse again about where to go. No worries.
