Pre-Clearance before entering US questions!

I have a question for those that have traveled to the US on Spouse Visa (I130). Some airports have a Pre-Clearance where you have to check-in before boarding a US Bound plane.

My wife who's visa was recently issued and given to her via a courier; she will have to go through Pre-clearance would she hand over the sealed envelope she received to the counter in Abu Dhabi? If if they open and keep it, will it cause issues when entering the US?

Anyone who's gone through this process please discuss!

In Abu Dhabi you will now go through us customs in Abu Dhabi. Therefore this should be her poe I believe. Treat is exactly as you would as if you were on is soil. If you go to gulfnew.com you can search there is an article about it.

This is exactly how pre-clearance works. When she goes through customs (CBP) in Abu Dhabi that is her POE. On the other side of the customs is considered US soil so she's entered the USA. That's why they block those areas off from the rest of the airport.

For the time being, only Abu Dhabi in the Middle East has US pre-clearance. Applies only to Etihad Aiways flights to the US.

There has been brief talk of extending it to other ME airports (dubai, doha), but nothing so far. Emirates and Qatar Air US-bound passengers clear customs upon arriving in the US.
