I am glad you got some answer at least (not sure how true it is). I can tell for LA field office for sure. The processing time mentioned is 5 months but if someone tells me they are processing cases which were filed more than 5months ago, I will not buy it as people who not only filed with but way after me already got their interviews done. It comes to only one comment "Each case is different"

Actully i am not buying that either, I know 3 people who applied 3 months after me got there interviews and waiting on Oath. they are not military releted neither they are special expidite cases.

If by next month i did not get my interview i am going to write to a Congressman, if nothing then i am going to write to USCIS ombusman, If still nothing then i prepare my Law suite. Hopefully and fingure cross i dont have to go that far.

I think I50 days for Background check or Security Check is just rediclous. Its going to be 6 months since i filed and no news so far.

JimmyHou, I've noticed you have given some recommendations in other threads. Thanks for your input. But you should be careful. By paying the ticket he is admitting guilt. That is not necessarily a good thing. You have no idea what kind of license he has. With some licenses in Texas, if you admit guilt on a moving violation your license is suspended or revoked. Better advice would have been to consult a traffic ticket defense lawyer. Not sure he even needs to disclose traffic tickets unless they involve alcohol or drugs. On the N400 instructions it actually states not to bring documents to the interview relating to traffic fines and incidents unless it's drug or alcohol related. But I agree honesty is the best policy. Thanks for your input! :-)

I appreciate your response, and you raise a good point which is worth noting and is helpful to those in such a situation, but I would not change my advice to the OP... the questioner gave no indication whatsoever that he had any special kind of license. The questioner asked how the speeding ticket impacted his application and what he should do... with regard to his application, the advice was 100% sound... with regard to other issues, that's not really what I was addressing and I hope my response didn't imply that paying the ticket was the best life choice for the OP... just that it was the best thing to do for his N400. For instance, the applicant's wife may get mad at him for wasting money if he pays the ticket... traffic tickets may be a big marital conflict for them... but that has nothing to do with the question that was asked. But that's why this is a forum, so we can all add information (as you did), or correct advice that is wrong.

2- Traffic citations

You absolutely have to disclose traffic violations. You are 100% right that you don't have to provide evidence for issues that are not alcohol related or that are under $500, but you do have to report them on the application (actually, many interviewers cause a delay if you don't have proof, so better take that with you too, even though technically you don't have to). This has been argued on here dozens of times, but the application is very clear that you have to disclose all citations. Many applicants have reported being told directly by interviewers that they needed to list them. Also, many applicants were told that traffic tickets don't matter. Since there's inconsistency in how interviewers handle the issue, it's essential that applicants follow the instructions exactly and list all citations. So to recap; disclosure on the N400 is absolutely required... evidence is not required, but will possibly lead to a decision not being made because a lot of interviewers don't understand the rules.

Just as an example (one of dozens on VJ), one applicant who was interviewed this year (I apologize, but it'll take forever to find the post) had an issue at the interview because her (I think the applicant was a lady) background check showed a police incident. The interviewer wasn't sure what the incident was, but because the applicant had a court disposition showing a traffic citation with the same date and place as the report, the interviewer realized it was a speeding ticket and approved the applicant. In such cases, the applicant isn't going to get denied, but without the evidence, they would probably not be approved on the same day either.

Again, though, thank you for your reply and your point about commercial driver's licenses... I would not change my advice to the OP, but your information is very helpful. Looking forward to both agreeing and amicably disagreeing with you on future posts!

If your argument is that traffic citations must be disclosed then you have to extend that logic completely on the N400 form.

Would you rather show that a crime was dismissed or show that you were convicted of a crime?

By paying the ticket he may have to amend his N400 on Question 25; Which asks Have you EVER been convicted of a crime or offense. Because we are getting technical here; Now he would have to answer yes. Which by the way in Texas is a class C misdemeanor.

Not really sure how that is good advice? You don't know if he was in a school zone, had minor children in the car, in a construction zone, which can get into class B misdemeanor territory.

Big picture I get what you're saying, but also big picture, it's never a good idea to admit guilt without talking to an attorney first.

I was naturalized on the 17th of June in an afternoon ceremony at Federal Plaza in New York, NY.

I received an email about three weeks ago stating that they had placed my oath ceremony in a queue to be scheduled.

It took another week and half before I received another email stating that USCIS had scheduled my oath ceremony. Took about four-five days to get the letter in the mail.

Arrived on time to the ceremony, was told to fill in the back of the letter and get on the line. Proceeded to hand in the letter to the person behind a window and was told to hand in all US government issued documents. The next step was to be seated in an assigned order.

There were over 300 different participants from over 48 nations.

The speaker (an officer from USCIS) proceeded to welcome us and give us information.

Immediately we sang the national anthem and then were sworn in as US Citizens. We also pledged allegiance to the flag and then waved the mini flags given to us as "I'm proud to be an American" played on the big screen.

We are US citizens finally! A dramatic somewhat emotional and humbling experience. Passport to the world of opportunity. Consider yourself lucky.

We were then told about our voting rights and everyone was given voter forms to register by a NYC voting awareness official. That was it.

I have a urgent appointment with the local passport agency to get a passport soon, need the passport to apply for a visa to the UK. (Even though I don't need one technically but I have my wife and kids there) so I hope that will allow me to get the passport ASAP.

Congratulations to all who have become citizens and good luck to all who are still waiting and on this long journey.

If your argument is that traffic citations must be disclosed then you have to extend that logic completely on the N400 form.

Would you rather show that a crime was dismissed or show that you were convicted of a crime?

By paying the ticket he may have to amend his N400 on Question 25; Which asks Have you EVER been convicted of a crime or offense. Because we are getting technical here; Now he would have to answer yes. Which by the way in Texas is a class C misdemeanor.

Not really sure how that is good advice? You don't know if he was in a school zone, had minor children in the car, in a construction zone, which can get into class B misdemeanor territory.

Big picture I get what you're saying, but also big picture, it's never a good idea to admit guilt without talking to an attorney first.

I agree with your first point. Makes sense.

Second point... the OP didn't list any of those things.... very good general legal point and it's good that you added it but it does not change my answer to the OP's specific N400 application question.

I was naturalized on the 17th of June in an afternoon ceremony at Federal Plaza in New York, NY.

I received an email about three weeks ago stating that they had placed my oath ceremony in a queue to be scheduled.

It took another week and half before I received another email stating that USCIS had scheduled my oath ceremony. Took about four-five days to get the letter in the mail.

Arrived on time to the ceremony, was told to fill in the back of the letter and get on the line. Proceeded to hand in the letter to the person behind a window and was told to hand in all US government issued documents. The next step was to be seated in an assigned order.

There were over 300 different participants from over 48 nations.

The speaker (an officer from USCIS) proceeded to welcome us and give us information.

Immediately we sang the national anthem and then were sworn in as US Citizens. We also pledged allegiance to the flag and then waved the mini flags given to us as "I'm proud to be an American" played on the big screen.

We are US citizens finally! A dramatic somewhat emotional and humbling experience. Passport to the world of opportunity. Consider yourself lucky.

We were then told about our voting rights and everyone was given voter forms to register by a NYC voting awareness official. That was it.

I have a urgent appointment with the local passport agency to get a passport soon, need the passport to apply for a visa to the UK. (Even though I don't need one technically but I have my wife and kids there) so I hope that will allow me to get the passport ASAP.

Congratulations to all who have become citizens and good luck to all who are still waiting and on this long journey.

I guess your passport agency doesn't require proof of impending travel? Some do (like Houston) and some don't (like San Diego).

My interview was this morning (Houston, TX), appointment time was 10:10am, I arrived around 9:45am and got called by an officer around 10:50am. The timeline was: give the officer my driver license, green card, all passports. Then read a sentence -> write a sentence -> go over the whole application ->Congratulation and recommended for approval!

When officer asked me the question about "if I ever got cited...", I told her that I got a traffic ticket around the end of March this year after I submitted the N400. She asked me if I went to jail for the speeding ticket and I said no. I gave the officer a copy of speeding ticket (I showed her original one and she made a dupplicate copy), copy of payment reciept for speeding ticket, copy of defense driving course certification (original one is already submitted to the court a month ago), a certified copy of 3 years driving history purchased and printed from DPS website yesterday (which shows my driving history is clean and the ticket is dismissed).

The officer said I will get an offical letter about the oath ceremony by mail in 1 to 2 weeks.

The interveiw was easy and smooth if you prepared, good luck everyone!

Hope my interview experience (3 yr base) can help someone has an idea how it goes in houston.

Today (7/21) I came in around 9:30 (appointment 10:10), waited 45 minutes, then got called in by a lady. She gave a sentence to read and told me to write down the answer she gave me. Then 6 questions (from 100). Finally she went trhu with me all questions I've answered in application form. And...Done! Around 12 minutes. She didnt ask anything about whole bunch of documents I brought with me. She said Oath Ceremony will be on 8/26.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends in this forum who i dont know the faces but have been being really helpful on my journey.

Keep up the good work guys!

Good luck to all waiting! It's all rewarded in the end.
