Medical Examination for K1 Visa - Requesting Medical Records

Hi all

This question is for any Brits that have successfully passed the medical exam for the K1 visa.

I'm British and in the early stages of applying for the K1 Fiancée visa with my partner. We're waiting to receive our NOA2. Our application is being handled by the TSC so I know I'm in for a long wait. In the meantime, I'd like to make sure I understand the rest of the process and do what I can to get any relevant paperwork together. I noticed one of the requirements stated as part of the medical exam is for copies of medical history/records. In the U.K. we don't get copies of our medical records, they're held by the GP.

My questions are:

1) Do you actually need copies of your medical records or is it enough to give a medical history and take copies of immunisations?

2) If it is necessary to bring copies of my medical records, what exactly should I ask for? Is it just a long print out of every GP appointment?

3) What has been other peoples' experience of getting records? I imagine it'll be a bit of a nightmare since it's a request that's out of the ordinary for most GP's (I imagine)

Thanks in advance!

K1 Application Process

No to actual photocopies of your entire medical records. Read this post explaining the UK medical further http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/?p=6741228

It is part of the K1 London Guide found in the UK forum.

All you need is a copy of your vaccination history. Some people report being required to pay £10 or so for this, others have gotten it for free. For future reference, you'll probably find that posting in the United Kingdom regional forum will be of more use to you post NVC stage. I imagine a mod will move this thread there also :)

Also, the London Embassy website outlines what is needed on the day: http://london.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/medical-examination.html

I think you only need copies of your medical history if you've had some serious health issue. Usually the big one I see around here is a history with depression, which they will need a letter from your GP to say you've never harmed yourself nor are you a risk to others. If you go here: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/unitedkingdom/164203/cons-visa/iv018a_medical.pdfand scroll down to the medical questionnaire, if you answer "yes" for any of them then you'll need to provide some sort of history on it. But if you answer no then you only need your vaccination records. That's my understanding!

I'm someone who needed to pay £10 for a copy of my vaccs, so make sure you have all your vaccs done before you request it and not be a numpty like me and ask for it before realising I needed injections! It turned ok in the end, the GP were understanding and didn't charge me twice!

Well, it seems that some Doctors offices in the UK are reluctant to do very much. I was told that "Nobody our age has immunization records, but we will do the DT booster for you." I had the flu shot in October (privately) and have the paperwork for it. I also had a titer test for a cool £100 to show that I have immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella and they kindly sent me a certified copy plus the carbon of the lab results. I did have my full set of shots as a kid but have no records of them. I had chicken pox as a child. Does anyone know if they are likely to give me any issues at Knightsbridge re. the titer tests in place of the vaccine record that is lost? I tried to see if I could contact Knightsbridge to ask but their contact us link on their web page is unresponsive.

They don't really need your childhood shots if you are willing to do the current adult shots. You could have gotten a MMR less than 4 weeks before Knightsbridge and been given a waiver for "insufficient time interval" to take Dose 2.

They will accept the titre as proof of immunity for MMR. Not sure if Td will please them or if they will be looking for Tdap since no prior record of DTP. They treat K1s kinda weird thinking you can get complete later. But if you get complete with them now, you don't have to spend further money in the US to pay another doctor to sign off.

Thanks. That's the intention - do it all here. Should I ask them to do the Tdap instead then? They were funny with me at the doctor's today and are reluctant to give us anything because we aren't going to be in the UK once the visa is approved. I can get it done at a travel clinic but she did give me an appointment to go get it done. And yes, as per your advice on other threads, I'd rather get it all done now. Paying for the shots elsewhere here is still so much cheaper than doing it at the medical. I don't want to have to try get to a Civil Surgeon when I arrive to adjust status. My fiance will be working and I won 't have a car. It will be a pain in the butt to in addition to the expense.

I find the list confusing. I did the titer test because they refused to give me the MMR because they said if I've had the required dose as a child, I should rather get the blood test done. So I just did that for the sake of keeping it simple. So is the MMR, Tdap and flu shot all I need then? Or have I missed anything?

They didn't accept my proof of vaccinations which was a bore but otherwise fine. Just anxious for that interview letter (although of course, my waiting is nothing compared to yours :( )
