Filing my i-485....need help

Hey everyone!!


Happy to say we finally got married on Jan 17

Now ...a few questions.
I need to file AOS.....Can I put my MARRIED name EVERYWHERE except for where they ask for maiden names or 'other' names?

Also, I believe I don't have to take a medical again....but what about Biographic. I already did that to obtain the K1...do I need to do it again?

It's even said I need to submit another Affidavit of Support?

What do we REALLY need to submit?

Congratulations on the marriage!

Yes, if you want to take your husbands last name put that on the applications, use your maiden name in the other names used section.

You don't have to do another medical if yours is still valid you just need to send the checklist the doctor should have given you to prove you are up to date on vaccinations.

You will have to do a biographical, it's covered in the AOS fees which is why the price is 1070.

You will need to send a new affidavit of support.

I suggest reading the guides and going to the AOS forum and reading them there.

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.
