Good Morning Fellow VJERS

Checked the site this morning and our case has been scheduled for Interview next month.

Unfortunately, We have already booked our flights for travel back home and will be out of the country.

We still haven't received the combo EAD cards in the mail as yet but are hopeful they will arrive before our departure.

My question is, can we call USCIS and ask for the interview to be rescheduled now or do we have to wait until we get the actual letters in hand. Don't want to delay the process any further than necessary.

Also, our bio-metrics were done in Fort Smith, would it be reasonable to think this is where we would have to go back for our interview or would it be scheduled to an office closer to home? Could we call and get this information?

Am a bit surprised it's scheduled already considering we sent our package in Feb and RFE June but as the saying goes, "Never look a gift horse in the mouth."

Thank you,

I did not get an interview waiver before.

Unlike most others in this sub-forum, happiny is not adjusting from K-1 visa.

Thus her experience is irrelevant to those who are in the K-1 category.

It only serves to confuse others when some choose to participate in the wrong forum with regard to their category..

Sorry if you already answered this question...but what was your i-485 status prior to getting interview waiver? Also, do they update the status online?

Vink, you are not adjusting from K-1.

Only K-1 persons will ever get an interview waiver.

It only serves to confuse ones self by comparing your experience with others who are in a completely different category.

Our local CIS office is San Fernando Valley, CA and as per the USCIS website, they are processing September 19, 2014 AOS applications as of April 30, 2015. I hope they have progressed since then which means my waiting time shouldn't be that long. I'm a February filer adjusting from K1 visa.

If you haven't, try looking at the processing times of your local CIS office: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do

It relieves the pressure of comparing your case from other members here.

To the best of my knowledge rescheduling the interview to adjust status will only delay your case even more. So you could possible be looking at another 6 months wait. Rescheduling dates with airline is much easier and better for you than rescheduling

Did you get a notice of potential interview waiver? Most of us K-1's did. To my knowledge, the cases generally stay at NBC, so data from the local field office would be irrelevant.

Hi nitsirk7562, yes I did get a potential interview waiver letter. I'm under the impression that our cases are in our local field offices because the NBC processing time information in the USCIS website doesn't show the I-1485 AOS. But it does show the EAD and AP processing times. I could be wrong.

Not correct. After initial screening and checking of applications, and issue of EAD/AP card, cases are transferred to local offices for interviews and processing of Green Cards.

The processing at National Center is within the 90 days, and generally follows fairly close to a first-in first-out order.

But once files are transferred to local offices the processing times fluctuate wildly from office to office, and even for those being processed in same office.

NPIWs are pre-processed at NBC and shipped out to available local offices. People are not notified where their cases go, so the local field office data is still irrelevant. Maybe we can call at some point to find out. I'm not sure if they'd tell us.

The only reason I can think of is that there are too many applications for them to handle. I just checked my local field office and happy to see they are making progress. As of May 31, 2015, they are processing the October 27, 2014 AOS filers. If they keep on the same pace, I might be hearing an update sometime in September-October.. *wishful thinking*

Hi everyone, pardon my ignorance but I want to ask what really are the disadvantages of the delays in green card or AOS? What are the repercussions if we don't have it as soon as we would have liked?

I am sometimes getting depressed over the waiting period but if I come to think of it, I have the EAD and AP with me. I am not illegally staying here and I am physically with my husband while waiting. Of course if given a choice, I would like to complete the process as soon as possible to lessen the things that I worry about.

One reason I can think of but I'm not sure if it's true is that the delay in AOS will prolong the prerequisites of applying the naturalization in the future? 'Coz it requires us to be permanent residents for 3 years or more and technically, that 3 years won't start until we have that green card, is that right? So essentially we are wasting time even if we are already permanently living here in the US.

If there's a thread about this topic, please let me know. I would like to learn more. Thank you!!
