It just the Philippines way to screw their citizens and get more money form them.

Travel Tax for Philippines Citizens is another legally robbery, as well as all of us paying airport tax.

Consulate will want to see the naturalization document, and U.S. passport, on it will be the married name...

Therefore, if the woman's maiden name is the name on the marriage certificate, it could be the same name listed on the naturalization document and US passport as well no?

I just want to share the opinion of the counselor in the CFO seminar I attended before leaving. The counselor said there was no need to report the marriage as the Philippines does not recognize same-sex marriage. With regards to the name change for the passport, she believes the consular will not honor the marriage certificate to change name so the counselor suggest that it is better to pursue the US citizenship and get the US passport under the new married name. I hope this helps.

yes this is correct. according to the phil embassy website in dc - one requirement for a new philippine passport with a change of name (due to a marriage) is a ROM. the ROM form or confirmation of it needs to be included as a supporting doc when applying for the passport renewal. approx 8 weeks (if im not mistaken) for the ROM to be completed and approx the same time for a new passport to be done as well. ROM can be done on its own or together with a passport renewal.

 

just out of curiousity - i know this is by personal decision but what do same sex couples usually do in this case? does one take one partner's name after marriage (similar to what most people do in hetero marriages)?

legislation has already been passed amending the passport law so that the validity will become 10 years from 5. it will take a little bit of time to be implemented though (i reckon a year or so maybe) but it will come! so hopefully when your wives (and me) need to renew, we should be able to get a 10 year one! *fingers-crossed*

There’s no change. I renewed my passport in DC last April. I used my maiden name. ROM was not suggested or recommended for same sex marriage.

I hyphenated my last name with my wife’s last name. Some couples both hyphenate their names when they get married. Some change both their names. Some don’t change names. At the end of the day, it’s a marriage with a choice of whether to have a new surname or not.
