Hello!

I would like to ask those same sex K1 couples if you also went to the Philippine consulate to report your marriage.

Do we need to report it immediately?

You do not need to report immediately. You can do it from online. Visit the webpage for the consulate in your area. Go here http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/ and toward the left hand side of the page you will see a map and a tab above that says "Consulate Finder". Go to the bottom of the box and you select "Consulate Finder". There you will select the state that you were married in (not the state you reside in if they are different) on the map and it will take you to the Consulate serving your area of marriage. Find the instructions for "reporting of marriage" ROM and follow the directions.

Hi Pinayanne...

We are same sex couple too... (fiance is transgender) From what we understand and what we have been learning, the Philippine Gov. does not recognize legal marriage even though the marriage was legally performed in the US State where the marriage took place. Things might be changing in the future though as most Filipinos are becoming more and more sympathetic to the rights of those of us. Below is a link to a wiki site that explains a lot and details the fact that the Phi. Gov. will not honor SS unions regardless of where they are wed.

Yes, it is very discouraging to us too since even the most simple rights like a foreign SS spouse cannot even get an extended stay visa if we want to stay for more than 30 days to be with her family etc...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_the_Philippines

All we can do is hope the powers that be will finally and soon recognize they are never going to stop people from loving each other and then provide equal rights regardless...

All the best to you and your loved one too!...

 I missed the same sex explanation in your OP. Sorry. What I added seems to be only for hetro couples.

This topic will be an ongoing discussion there in the Phil as they gravel with what will eventually happen. Good luck.

Hey Pinayanne,

Sorry, I forgot to say... Congratulations!!! :dancing:

Hiii!!! Thank youuu :)

Actually we are not yet married but i'm already in America.

We were planning to go to Washington DC after getting married to report our marriage. But then I was not sure if they will entertain us there since we are a same sex couple or we might just end up wasting money of going there

Easy answer to that is - Could the two of you gotten married in the Philippines?

Nope we can't get married there. I was just wondering if we should also inform phil consulate about our marriage even if we are a same sex couple. Cause if they don't care about same sex couples marriage then there's no point for us to go to Washington DC.
