Hello everyone -

I received my conditional GC last year. I may be accepting a job offer in my home country starting this August .This is not a permanent job, and I plan to live there for one year until I find a different job in the U.S. I'll be coming back to the States in time for removing conditions. During that one year, my partner and I will make frequent trips back to the States. Will I still need to get a re-entry permit? Thanks in advance!

Is your spouse going with you?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks for link! Seems like I may be better off having my partner remain in the U.S. then... according to the website:

"If an LPR is employed abroad or has to travel overseas for a considerable length of time, it is preferable for his/her immediate family members, including any spouse, children, and parents, to remain in the U.S. Documentation of strong family ties to the U.S. shows the LPR's intention to keep his permanent resident status."

That's a helpful link. I was going to respond to the OP asking about how this would affect the status because wouldn't you be obligated to prove you aren't abandoning your green card?

I guess I can just relinquish my GC and reapply in Japan for CR-1. This may be a better option, I would think? Our marriage is lasting. I don't really care if I lose my GC. Japan does offer better job opportunities. It's just a matter of what my US spouse says ;-)
