Is that possilbe to do? If so I would def do that :) But I guess I will be in the same situation once I visited Sweden to go back to USA, but it might be cheaper if I book earlier that time tho.

Entirely possible, IF you have your Advanced Parole in time for the return flight.

Hi,

This question might be silly but I really have no idea.

The tickets from Sweden to US is really expensive if you just go with a one way ticket,

It is much cheaper with a round trip.

Will there be problem on the port of entry in US if you have a round trip ticket?

Thanks.

No, you can purchase any type of ticket you want.

I was wondering this same thing. I looked on how much it is to book a one way from Nigeria to USA 2100, but a around trip 1112 on KLM. But that is absoulutely ridiculous for the big discrepancy in price. But good to know we cancel upon entry...

Remember to check your frequent flier account as one way tickets do not take a surcharge e.g. they are half a roundtrip ticket. At least for us it was possible to buy a ticket with miles for my fiancee and pay cash for my roundtrip ticket to accompany her and be her luggage porter ;}

Nobody will ask you anything. My then-fiancee had a round-trip ticket. Needless to say, she missed her return flight, 2 weeks after her POE.

Edit: We did not cancel her return. Didn't know that was recommended. Oh well. We have plenty of proof to show she's still here right now.

As stated, it's highly prudent to cancel the return flight. It's easy to forget to do, in the whirlwind of arriving and adapting.

When you do cancel the return flight, make clear, copious notes about when you called the airline (date & time), the name of the agent to whom you spoke, and that agent's location (i.e., which call-center). If there's a cancellation number, get that, too. Put these notes atop the rest of your immigration papers, and hang on to them at least until AOS is approved.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do. Held onto miles specifically for that purpose. While it is easy to do with United, I don't know if Delta allows one-way award tickets. I remember trying a couple years ago, and I had no luck.

Why don't you book the return flight for way in the future? That way, you can use the return flight to go home for a visit. :)

Because they would still need a ticket to return to the US or they would always have an open ticket back to Sweden. Travel to Sweden on the original RT ticket used to arrive in the US on the K-1 visa and then have to buy a RT to the US and back to Sweden with the trip to Sweden sometime way in the future again. Not worth the hassle IMHO. Just pay for a RT and realize that the one-way was much more expensive. For us I paid $2200 for the RT and the one-way was about $3400. So I saved $1200 and did not use the return leg. I do not feel I wasted anything as my out of pocket expense was $2200 instead of $3400.

The reason to cancel the return leg is that the airline may sell your seat and may not remove your name from the manifest. The DHS gets these manifest and if you have a pending AOS application the USCIS will see that you left the country on such and such date while the AOS was pending. You will get a denial letter. Now you will have to appeal this denial and PROVE that you did not leave the US. How do you prove his? You need some form of dated evidence that shows you were in the country on the or shortly after the date they claim your left. What type of evidence fulfills this requirement? Do you have any? What do you do if you do not have any evidence? Will the airline help you in proving you did not get on that flight? It can be done, but it wil take time and effort. In the mean time your spouse will not have AP nor EAD nor a GC. Your spouse will not be able to work nor can they leave the US and return. Plus they are not a LPR so the clock for applying for USC has not even started ticking. It took me all of three minutes to cancel the return leg. I still have the cancelation number in my wife's immigration file.

Buy the cheapest ticket, most times, is a round trip one, and it is what my wife came here on from the Philippines.

We just let the return, expire..,.,.no problems at POE, Atlanta. Not even mentioned.

But, we "did" have harassment level at a "10" and I still do not know why. Stuff happens, I guess.
