Hi,

Im starting my packet 3 DS-160 forms, can some body walk me thru on how to proceed with this part? it says step one to complete forms online and have 2 visa photos with name and DOB on back and passport copy of each applicant? Does this mean my fiance has to mail this stuff to the consulate? it doesnt give me address to mail it to.

thanks for the help

Did you read the K-1 Instruction Handout (PDF file) from the link specified on the Packet 3 letter you received from the consulate?

See link below:

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/hochiminh/231771/PDFs/K-INSTRUCTION.pdf

Basically:

1. Complete the DS-160 form. Print the Confirmation Page (the last page after you electronically sign the form). It has your fiance(e)'s picture, name, DS-160 Confirmation Number, DOB, and some other info. You can also request a copy of the Confirmation Page sent to your email, then print it out.

2. Two (2) passport photos with name + DOB written on the back for EACH applicant

3. One (1) copy of the passport for each application

You fiance(e) will have to mail everything to the consulate in HCMC. The address is on the top of the handout:

Consulate General of the United States of America

Consulate Section - Immigrant Visa Unit

4 Le Duan Blvd., District 1, Ho Chi Minh City

Mail the package to the consulate using EMS service. They usually deliver within 1-2 days and provide tracking / delivery info.

Frontgear,

Thank you for your reply, I went ahead and applied online visa ds-160 and paid the visa fee. Now I have her interview date set at april 21 2015. Will I still need to mail the 2 passport photos and items mentioned above to the consulate?

Yes, you will need to mail everything in my post to the consulate. It is required for pre-interview processing.

How long does it usually take for the consulate to mail packet #3 and what all comes in packet #3, besides the K instructions? I know the website says not to schedule the interview until after receiving packet #3, but if it's only instructions that everyone already has, what's stopping us from just proceeding?

My fiancee and I have already completed the DS-160, and paid the $265 visa fee at the Vietnam Post yesterday. For this reason we have not scheduled the interview yet or mailed the DS-160 confirmation page, two passport photos with name + DOB written on the back and a copy of her entire passport including the blank pages.

I know other members have mailed these items and scheduled their interviews, before receiving packet #3, but has anyone run into problems with doing this? We want to proceed, so I can schedule my vacation time at work and purchase my plane ticket. At the same time, we don't want to take any chances and screw something up. I also followed the tracking instructions posted on this site and found that it was delivered today.

Any advise or opinions are welcome.

Packet 3 only contains a letter with your HCM case number and a link to review the K instructions. We also did not want to wait so we emailed the consulate and asked if we could go ahead and submit the required docs for pre-interview processing. They emailed us back and specifically told us to wait until after we received the Packet 3 before proceeding.

Btw, you don't need to make a copy of the whole passport. You just need the biographic page clearly showing your name, photo, and all the info on there.

How long since the consulate received your case? If it has been more than 2-3 weeks, I would suggest sending them an inquiry using their online contact form. Tell them that you have not received the Packet 3 and would like for them to email the letter to you. Then you can use the letter for med exam and vaccinations.

whats are the documents ofr pre interview processing? is that the confirmation page and passport photos? I belive i jumped the gun and did the ds-160 and got interview date for april. I have already sent off the confirmation page and passport photos prior but have not received any confirmation about this.

i believe they sent my fiance packet 3 which was a copy of the k1 visa application and instructions.

should my fiance proceed with vaccination and medical exam should this be done closer to the interview in april or can it be done now?

The pre interview documents are listed in step 3 on the K-1 instruction packet. Has your fiancee got the originals and copies of her Household Registration Book, her identification, passport, single status certificate, police record #2, your birth certificate or any previous marriage documents? What else did you send with the confirmation page and passport photos?
If you already sent your fiancee packet 3 and you've already done everything correctly per the instructions, she should proceed with the medical exam and vaccinations.

Omg so everything listed in step 3 needs to be sent to the consulate for per interview documents? even the evidence if relationship and support? I thought these two items are brought to the interview?

You sound like you have everything in order. Just get your birth certificate, most recent tax transcript and updated documents and support sent soon. April will be here before you know it.

My fiancee's interview is on May 8th and I'll be taking all of our additional paperwork and evidence with me when I go.
