Working before EAD

My fiance is worried I will get bored in the first month in San Francisco so he thought I could work voluntarely in the media business before that. Is that allowed?

How was it for you, were you bored in the first three months while waiting for your work permit? I thought i would have enough to do with furnishing a new house, studying the language, looking for a job later, filign the papers, doing my drivers license, finding friends, getting married.

But my fiance said, "do you just want to sit on your butt, that sounds boring to me."

Dont be it too much of a rush to get out there and work unless you have too... Take time to find out about your new home area and being married.... you will benefit from this time...

I wasn't bored at all, had too much stuff to do while settling in. I'm with Kezzie, if you don't have to work, I'd take the time off and enjoy it!

BTW, you have to be careful what sort of things you volunteer for before being allowed to work.

You will definitely be able to find things to keep yourself busy with all the new things you are going to encounter in the U.S. There really isn't anything you can do except wait for the EAD to be approved anyways, so you may as well enjoy your "retirement" while it lasts!!!!

You could always take some classes for any interests you have through the local recreation centre in your area too.

Enjoy your time off while it's possible. Once you start working in America, you won't have that many days off anymore! And I don't think you'll get bored in San Francisco...
