Yes it expires September 4th, I've had confirmation from the embassy that it's able to extend for a further 4 months with a new letter of intent either at the interview or by post - that's in hand so no worries there.

I'm not planning on leaving the UK till mid March due to commitments here so October is the earliest time that fits in.

I guess you are one of the rare breed that doesn't want/ need to go over to the USA as soon as possible! Most are trying to get through the process as quick as they can, so your question is quite different from the norm!

I might be wrong, though I believe that the expiry date is for when you must have had both the medical and the interview. As you said, it can be extended by a further four months, which would take you up to the beginning of January but I am not sure if it can be extended a second time. You need Nich-Nick to answer that one.

Perhaps try ringing Knightsbridge and see if they are taking appointments as far ahead as October. They might not book that far ahead, though I don't see why you couldn't then just wait until they do start booking appointments, and when necessary have your confirmation letter expiry date extended another four months.

Don't forget that you have six months from issue in which to use your K1, so you could have an interview at the end September that would still give you 6 months to enter the USA on a K1 before it expires end of March. That would also allow you to book a medical possibly as early as August.

I went to see the civil surgeon last wednesday finally, they were so friendly there and they even let us have my appointment early as we arrived at 10 am and my appointment had been for 11am. It was really straight forward, the two vaccines I had to have really hurt though. I had the tetanus and dipheria, polio one and the MMR second doze. the tetanus vaccine hurt for two days though. While we were in the city we also went to the mall of america after the medical clinic. Next we are going to print alll the forms, gather all the evidence and get my passport size photos and pay the fees. I am so glad we are finally starting my AOS, mainly so I can starting working soon. I am happy though that I am in America and that I see my husband everyday and we got a dog together too.

I've been wondering how you've been doing, Vicks! I am glad everything is starting for you relatively soon!

Being next to your loved one every day is something so special. <3 <3

Thanks for that ?

Yes I know I'm in a different situation to most, I'd love to be there tomorrow & from my perspective it's hard for that reason knowing I could be if I wasn't commited to being here till March!

I'll give Knightsbridge a call next week to find out the situation.

You're right on the timescales - medical & interview to be completed by the end of the 4 months expiration date, then 6 month validity on the visa from the date of the medical (not the interview) to enter.

That's a perfectly good plan. You know what you are doing. You are going to have to call and ask Knightsbridge about their appointments or just wait a few months to book it. No rush to get in the queue now. They aren't that busy.

@Chas--a medical now would expire in November and would have to be done over before a visa could be issued. Lots of £££. He can delay the medical. Nothing has to be done now... as in medical before petition expiration.

Backlog: Do the math

(Data 2014)

London issued 124,541 visas

246 working days (15 holidays)

124,541 / 246 = 506 visas per day

There is the potential that they are back logging 500 visas each day.

Monday will be Day 10 of the halt in printing.

Does anyone know how far in advance Knightsbridge take medical bookings?

I'm at the ready stage with the Embassy but having to delay my medical till first week of October.

Will they take a booking that far in advance?

We had to draw out the process a bit for my fiance's K-1 as it got approved much sooner than we anticipated. We got NOA2 in December and waited and booked medical for April 2nd, then interview was on June 2.

We have a October wedding planned, so we needed to draw it out a little bit.

When we called to initially book the medical at Knightsbridge, they only allowed bookings 1 month in advance.

Hope this helps! :)

Interview tomorrow. Anxious about it, but know there's no way we won't get approved.

Getting into Euston at 10.15, gives me plenty of time to get to interview at 1.

Tell them you are immigrant. There's a much longer line for non-immigrant so don't spend time in the wrong line. Of course they may be doing less NIV due to "The Issue".

Enjoy your day in London.

Visa approved!

Very quick and easy. Nice officer eas happy for us, said I should be home in time for the wedding on the 25th of July. She said it would take 3 weeks for it to arrive.

She put a big note on the front of my file saying fiance 28 weeks pregnant, wedding 25th July. I think that will help.

Happy to be finally approved.
