I don't think USCIS and the petition process is concerned with that at all.

Well if that is not it then I am at a loss as to why we are at day 62 with no update. I would not mind an RFE at this point just to know what they are looking for. We know someone started working on the case on 3/23 as that is what the Tier 2 customer service told me. He said that he could not see any other details without submitting a service request.

Is it possible that this recent transferring of applications from TSC to CSC might have slowed things down at CSC?

I'd be shocked if it didn't eventually slow them down.

Once upon a time, CSC held the Hell-Hole title, now proudly flaunted by TSC. Every service center gets a chance to be the villain in this story.

Yay, it's nice to see you moving along too :) Have you settled in now?

We really wanted to fly out next week, but I checked the CEAC this evening and it's updated, but no case status change. I guess we may not have it in time to leave next week with the bank holiday unless the courier collects it by Friday. DX doesn't work on Monday so they will do the next collection on Tuesday.

We'll have to wait and see.

Yes, wedding date that has changed so many times, when I put it in our timeline and signature, I said to William that announcing this is NOT an invitation to the government to mess it up for us

Well done! And how did you find the USA driving test compared with ours in the UK? Was it as easy as some people say it is?

Never took the UK one but drove regularly prior to moving. The test here was very simple, I believe it lasted just 12 minutes for me :)

12 minutes!!!!! Did you just drive round the block or something?!!!!

I passed both my car and bike tests a long time ago, both in 1987. I remember the car driving test was around 30 - 40 minutes of driving, then a selection of Highway Code questions, probably a total of 45 - 50 mins. The bike test entailed a part one and part two - part one was riding around a school playground showing that you had basic control mastered, then you could apply for and take part two, which was riding around a few blocks a number of times whilst an examiner watched you from the pavement. There were points that you would be out of sight, so technically you could pull a wheelie, run someone over, fall off, get back on and then come back into view as if nothing had happened and still pass the test!

Now it's all so different, as there is the theory test to contend with for both, and the bike test now has the examiner following you pursuit style and linked via a radio intercom. Sounds to me that the US test is a walk in the park in comparison.

Does anyone know if you need separate licences for motorcycles in the USA as per over here in the UK?

We drove around a few blocks ;) I had already done the computer part of the test to get my learners permit when I was last there on the J1 visa however so did not need to take that part.

I believe, at least in Oregon, it is a separate license/test for a motorcycle.

I believe, at least in Oregon, it is a separate license/test for a motorcycle.

That's pretty much standard for European and North American countries, the full bike licence is totally separate from the car licence (though they share penalty points accrued). I have a full licence, car and bike, in the UK, and though I'm not in a rush to get back on a bike I wouldn't mind doing so again in the future. Would be a bit of a pain to have to take the bike test as well, though the car test is far more a necessity. Since May 1986 I've only been without my own motorised transport around 6 months (4 of those when I went back packing around Europe) - back in the UK it felt like having my legs chopped off! And that's with living on the edge of London with all the public transport available. Where my partner lives, and where we plan on moving (west Florida) not being able to drive a car will be such a hindrance.

From what I understand, I can still drive on my UK licence for up to a year depending on the state? I will have a good bit of time to get it sorted, and it does sound as if the USA test will be a breeze. Fingers crossed!

Just an update to my situation if anyone else is/was/will be in the same boat...

My CEAC Visa Status did NOT work until it reached the embassy in London and now it is 'READY'.

This was also the case for another VJ couple that I've been in contact with - so don't worry if you're in this situation - we had no 'At NVC' or 'In Transit status'
