I also quickly wanted to say thank you to everyone here for helping us compile our petition and listening to me winge impatiently. This place has been so amazing-and I am so glad we stumbled upon it before committing to a lawyer. I am so excited to start the AOS stage and continue checking in with you guys and your process, and most importantly your new lives as fully fledged couples! xxx

I feel the same way about stumbling upon VJ before we started. I was very lost and didn't even know how to navigate a message board, but I knew I had found a gold mine and it was just a matter of picking out the gold. My fiancé was insistent that we would require a lawyer. I said, "No, I've got this. I am positive I can do it."

Must be a Brit thing, because Kas was wary about doing this on our own as well!

Quick update on our case....

Filed the I-129F together on 2nd April a couple of days before I flew back to the UK.

Today received the e-notification to say it's been received & forwarded to the CALIFORNIA service centre!!!

We honestly thought that with my fiancé in Arkansas it would have definitely been a Texas centre case?

We had planned on an April 16 wedding giving us time to save & pay the fees, etc.

So my question is with Cali processing so quickly, without any hiccups, what are the timescales that I have to get the medical done & the interview scheduled? How long is the approval valid for?

Seems strange to now be worrying it may be too quick?!?!

Then we will find out how it works for a courthouse wedding, does anyone on here know if you have to book an appointment to get married? Or you can just turn up? We are going to ask tomorrow. Probably it depends on the state you live in and availability.

well it can take any length of time to get your visa petition approved.. yes CSC is quicker but it can take between 2-5 months on average. Then it takes about two weeks usually for NVC to send it to US embassy in London. It takes about a month from when you have your medical exam to get an interview at the embassy. It is not advised to plan a wedding date yet as you may be disappointed if it passed before you got the visa.. but it does give you something to look forward to.. just like they advise people not to book flights until you have your visa in hand.

I know in Washington you apply for a license and it takes 3 days to go into effect. Have to make appointments for a courthouse wedding here.

It would depend on your county and judge availability. He might be in court if you just turned up. They may do marriages only on certain days of the week. You don't have to be married by a judge in his courtroom or office. There are lots of officiants who can perform marriages anywhere you choose...a park, restaurant, lake, mountaintop, boat, hot air balloon, etc. Another question to ask is if you can bring back the license yourself and get the marriage certificate same day while you wait. You can get on with AOS quicker if you don't have to wait for it to be mailed to you.

Our case creation date and status update changed to today 10 April, and is now listed as a non immigrant visa application. I'm assuming this is standard protocol and a step in the right direction, yeah?
