I didn't, after responding once to him and defending myself, his retaliation just led me to believe that I wasn't going to win the argument. So, instead of feeding the fire, I took the oxygen away. /metaphor

Things are going good for us, we're both just anxious like a couple of nervous cats. He's starting to get really worried about the interview-he doesn't like that our future is hanging in the balance of some consular officer. I keep telling him that he knows me, and that he will be fine--who knew we would switch roles in terms of worry-wart and comforter?!

Less than two weeks--I can hardly wait!

aww I think the interview is a breeze when you know that you know your partner well and that you have all your documents you need with you, in my experience the consular officer was friendy and that made my nerves subside abit, i always feel more confident in myself when it is like that. I am sure he will do great!

Don't worry about those people complaining about the service center waits. In the end, we all get to be with our loved ones one way or another.

I'm not going to, I completely understand their frustration. I just don't want it taken out on me.

Glad to be here with happy people. :goofy:

I am sorry you had to deal with that. I recently fell to a VSC's (Spousal Visa Filer) trolling on here, too. I don't know why I was a lucky participant... but I suppose that's how the cookie crumbles. Everyone in this thread predominantly keeps their baggage at the door, which is nice and refreshing.

I remember seeing that and thinking that it was very rude of him to select you to pick on. I am glad about the lack of baggage and looking forward to moving on. :energy:

yeah some people are bitter because of the waiting at tsc and I think they shouldn't take it out on other people, its nobody's fault how fast or slow the process is and we just have to hang in there. It took 9 months in total before I was finally with my fiance in America, I am here now and I am loving it and I am so happy! Yeah it's not your faut you got lucky, it just happens that way sometimes.

I'm so happy for you finally making it. I am so glad that we finally get to move on to the next steps in this process and can make that happen.

Aw, thanks for mentioning me! I still consider myself a bit of a newbie but I try to help where I can. I'm glad you're feeling prepared!

I didnt expect to be mentioned lol yeah this thread as been so helpful to me too, i love the fact everyone here is happy to help whenever someone has questions about k1 visa, the aos etc and I am enjoying reading everyones updates and progress as well.

I have been lurking about and think that all of you are the best and have helped me tremendously. (F)

Aw, I know how Kas must feel...even though I knew full well that I had everything I still felt a bit nervous the night before. But just tell him that it isn't an interview to determine whether or not your relationship is genuine - your I-129f did that - it's just to see that he is who you've said he is. I know it's easy for me to say, but believe me, it's not hard at all!

haha yeah I am stubborn too I told my fiance months ago before I even came, that in our household I am always going to talk the british way. I dont have the guts to in public though to be that bold and speak british words or prounciations as it is frustrating not being understood, yesterday I went to subway and I couldnt bring myself to say toe mate o instead of toe mart o lol so I didnt have any in my sandwich. Yeah so in public i mostly feel I must talk American and at home british as I love my heritage, our future kids are gona speak both and brought up to know both ways to speak and learn everything about both countries. If I had my way and if winters werent terrible here I would celebrate 5th november still, maybe we still will but without fireworks.

I am looking forward to 4th of July though and labour day and easter and thanksgiving!

I can understand how you feel, it does make you feel a bit on the spot when someone doesn't understand you despite you talking (real) English! My fiance when he lived in England would get me to order things in the pub because he couldn't be bothered dealing with people smirking at/questioning his accent. Unfortunately you're gonna have to face the fact that your kids will have an American accent!! They'll want to fit in at school so they'll talk like the majority. One of my Uni friends was actually English, but she adapted a full on American accent after moving there when she was 11. But definitely teach them about their heritage and English holiday traditions :). Haha, you can have a little bonfire in your garden on November 5th! And by little I mean...probably in a bin and you'll stay out there for 30 seconds ;)

Well said. London is not bothered about the relationship because USCIS vetted that. They asked a few simple questions because their supposed to, but if you get something wrong or say I don't know, they would still approve.

Unfortunately you're gonna have to face the fact that your kids will have an American accent!!

I think so too. I have known two English couples for many years. Their kids are grown now and all have American accents despite both sets of parents still sounding quite English. They spend more time with the kids at school and play and pick it up. Edited by Nich-Nick

We speak "Amerilish" when we are together. We find that when we want the other to understand what we want we use the words from their country. I ask him to put something in the boot, he would ask me to put it in the trunk. He is also the cook so I have become very fond of roast Sunday dinner and yorkshires. And Tim has become a big fan of Thanksgiving. We have enjoyed blending verses giving up. The only thing he refuses to do is order thru the drive-thru...they never understand him. :-)

aww thanks maybe I might soon, we plan to go to st cloud on april 10 as my fiance has to do something there and then that same day we are going to the courthouse in buffalo to get our marriage license, I am wondering how long does it take to receive the license do you know?

Hey! :) that's exciting! It's 5 days for the license to be valid in the state, so keep that into account. ;)

Gary and I have a mix of the two when we are together, an our families pick up bits and pieces from the other one. Some of my favo(u)rites are 'numpty' and '#######'.

Vicks, November is a great time for a bonfire around here! Especially with the somewhat large yards. My parents have 2.5 acres, and we have quite a few a year. Gary and I want to celebrate November 5th with as much splendor as the 4th of July. :)

Wedding is two weeks from today! My countdown keeps reminding me on my phone. :)!

Yeah, I think when you're with someone from another culture you pick up on things and don't think twice about it, even though it's not what you yourself would say/do. It's like bi-lingual kids who just know what language to speak to which parent! Haha, you should record a video of him attempting it!!

Numpty is a brilliant word. I am quite partial to calling people "donuts" too, it's a newie I've been hearing, but I like it! I enjoy calling people "muppet" too. Not giving those up! Don't care how weird people think I am!

"somewhat large yard" = 2.5 acres

Oooh, are you guys having a big proper wedding or something low key?

Well so far I have felt okay about it and haven't felt on the spot, but there will probably be times I will though, I can imagine he probably felt awkward when people would keep asking things. I didn't mean our kids will have my accent or that they must talk British English, I mean I would love them to know both as that way they will learn about where Mum is from as well as being American. I know they will want to fit in at school it is expected and normal, I am happy for us to do both our traditions and holidays, it is going to be wonderful and very fun! Yeah kids and young teens do take on the accent quickly and sometimes adults do as well, probably over time I will either do the accent on occasions but I do feel I will keep my british one as well. Haha lol yeah it will be freezing to be outside long in November.

Well said. London is not bothered about the relationship because USCIS vetted that. They asked a few simple questions because their supposed to, but if you get something wrong or say I don't know, they would still approve.

Yeah my Fiance understands everything I say and I understand everything he says. I know he enjoyed some of the british cooking when we went out to eat in England and I am really enjoying all the American food I have eaten so far, we had beef steak with his parents yesterday night, delicious.

I can tell his parents are enjoying learning from me and his dad loves to joke around about british accent and he seems to think at the moment that people still say pip pip and cheerio, yeah it's not common anymore, I said that was more the 50s and 60s era. That's great to hear that November will be a great time for bonfires and my fiance already told me we can grill/ barbeque as well.

Congrats on the wedding countdown!

Well April 11th is just the ceremony. My mom is a registered officiant, so she's marrying us. Literally the two of us, my mom and dad, and two witnesses. We are skyping his parents in to watch. :) And then a large BBQ reception in July at our place on the Mississippi. :)
