IDs are issued weird here. You don't go to the DMV, you go to the county license office. I can take him to the county next to us for a computerized permit test. I stopped in the other day while running errands and they said if He has his passport and SSN it's fine. The lady said she'll take his passport with the I-94 in it for his permit and if I bring in a bill or bank statement with his name on it she'd be even happier. I work at the bank I am with, and adding him won't be hard to do (just need SSN).

Did she say his permit would expire the day his I-94 expires? That's the usual drill to comply with the federal government trying to control undocumented immigrants from having state licenses or IDs. When your legal presence expires, the license expires.

She said his permit would be valid for a year, or until he got his EAD (and can update from I-94). He doesn't have to have his permit for a specific length of time before his license, since he has driven in the UK and can bring his foreign license and permit. She said to just bring his EAD in with the permit to get the license.

Ok, so I had been checking the status all day and nothing. It's now 22:18 in the UK, and I checked and we are in AP (we weren't an hour ago)???

I had called NVC to ask why it was taking so long. Did that push us to the next step? :P

I see. No license until EAD, but he can practice.

My husband drove on his UK license until he could get a state license. He ended up getting his permit and license the same day because permit is the first step after passing the computer test. So he passed, they wrote out the permit, then he went out and took the driving part, passed, came back in and they wrote out the paper license you get until the card one comes in the mail. He really didn't need to practice because he drove every time he came to visit. It was real easy because the lady officer had him drive around a few blocks then told him to go back because she could tell he was an excellent driver. She did make him do the parallel parking part. Lucky day at a small town office.

Yeah, we have to go to one county for his permit, and then come to our home country for his test (only done on Thursdays). The driving test for ANYBODY is 15 minutes long, including parallel and 90degree back in. You never go on the highway, never go over 30 miles per hour, and never have any stoplights, only signs. He used to drive the M1 and in London, I think he will be fine. ;)

Congrats guys, hope you see the issued soon. We've been stuck in AP since Friday, after thinking it'll be approved Monday. Hope you're not in the same boat as us.

My beneficiary fiance has been married twice before, we have the divorce decree absolutes for both and the marriage cert from the last one. We were wondering do we need to go to the effort to track down a copy for the first one? Anyone with this experience at a London interview?

Marriage Certificates: If you are married, you must present an original marriage certificate, or a certified copy, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority. A certificate is required for all marriages, including those that have been terminated.

Thanks!

Just the divorce decree is needed. They want you to prove you are legally free to marry. You don't have to prove the former marriage(s). The decree of divorce is sufficient to prove that the marriage previously existed, and more importantly, that it is legally terminated.

My divorce decree details the date and place of my marriage as well as the date and place where the divorce was granted. That is the relevant information required.

The marriage certificate will be required for those applying for a spouse visa or any other visa where marriage is the basis for the application. I think it is just badly worded and and reads as though a marriage certificate is required for divorce, whereas it should read that a certificate should be presented (i.e. divorce) for terminated marriages. I hope that makes sense.

I have a question about "Administrative Processing".

When a case gets stuck in AP, is it usually when the case is classed as a "immigrant visa application" on the CEAC website, or a nonimmigrant?

I've been stuck on there for a few days now and I'm wondering if any of these reasons could make a difference:

1) No live trace on police certificate, supplied subject access. Got a caution for taking a bike when young and drunk :(

2) My mum was born in Palestine.

3) I recently spent 2+ months in India and on my list of countries I've visited in the last 5 years were India and Jordan (plus a load others)

4) I lost my passport when in NY so had to get a new one just in time for medical + interview.

Our case has already gone from AP -> Ready -> AP again, but it seems like its taking longer than most to get issued.

Not much to update you all on from me! Cancelled my phone, handed in my notice, told the bank I was leaving. I need a copy of my P45 to send off for any tax I'm owed so will have to wait for that one. I don't mind, I'll still have a UK bank open so I can always transfer the money over. Glad I live with my parents since I'd probably be stressing about a lot more if I didn't!

Fiance is flying back to America today, I'm trying my best not to get too worried after the plane crash in France :(. This has happened so many times, the guy who hid a bomb in his pants was the day before I went on a trip to America, the day before I left Japan the plane was shot down in Ukraine and now this! Got a flight tracker on at work!

Sent an email to the embassy and they replied telling us our interview date. So excited, It is next week April 2nd.

It always amazes me how easy the US test is, I think he'll just be able to handle it ;)

Hmmm, I doubt 4) has anything to do with it but they might be looking into reasons 1-3 but I can't be sure.

Going crazy at work waiting for the 'ISSUED' to show up on my screen.

Good luck Shana with all that admin stuff to sort out before your move. When Gary was coming to visit last October for three months and left work things were a little electric for a bit!
