UK VJers Progress Update Thread

Hey everyone! It's me - the original thread creator mwahaha. It's so great to see it being used for support . I didn't want to make a new thread about this, so figured I'd try and seek the sage advice of those who have been through AOS here - any help is always appreciated from you guys!

After a year in AOS interview pending limbo my interview is on Wednesday. Here's my checklist:

Passports + Copies of ID pages

SSN's + Copies

Birth Certificates + Copies

Drivers Licences + Copies

Marriage certificate + Certified copy

Health insurance card + Copy

Bank statement (Joint account)

Tax return (Filed jointly)

Car insurance (under both names)

Spouse's employment letter (he had and left a job in the time waiting for the AOS interview) + Copy

Spouse's 2 months of pay stubs

EAD Card + Copy

I-94

Photographs

All visa documents (kept in a folder so not so hard to take with us)

Interview notice (the golden ticket!)

I've got 3 folders, 1 with original documents, 1 with documents we don't mind handing over + copies of important original documents and 1 with all my previous visa journey history. Feeling fairly organised right now!

Let me know if you see anything that I'm missing!

wbeem - So great to hear that you're done with AOS! Thank you for including your experiences with the medical - it really does seem to be a case by case (or even office by office?) experience in regards to being asked for another one. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed I can walk away on Wednesday without an RFE, but if I do get one then oh well - I'm used to waiting!

Congratulations!!! My POE is DC this Friday, the last three weeks have gone so quickly, kind of a blur!

My medical is booked for next Wednesday. They only had 2 appointments for next week when I called.

I'm sure this question has been answered somewhere but I haven't found it!

My fiance just went through his POE in Dublin - Was he supposed to get a form or anything - the I-94? He didn't receive anything they just told him to be sure to adjust his status when he arrives.

I may have just a little bit of anxiety and want to make sure we have everything we need!!!

All sorted for Knightsbridge next week. Paperwork printed, child care sorted, my daughter is going to stay at my aunts over night (doesn't need a medical as is US citizen). Got my Oyster card in the post on thursday last week so thats sorted too.

I know this is probably somewhere - but I am just worried reading the Social Security website. I believe I read on here that the K1 visa makes you eligible for a social security number - I think in South Carolina we need that for the marriage license. And I know we need to bring the I-94 - but there are other documents listed on the SSN website that I don't think we have... What documents are needed? Sorry if this is somewhere else!

Typically clerk court websites detail that both parties need an SSN to get married. However, this usually isn't the case. Call the clerk, explain the situation, and they will most likely tell you they can use something else in place of an SSN, usually a passport. If any clerk gives you trouble, then they don't want your business and you don't need to give it to them. For instance Charleston County doesn't even mention an SSN, a passport may be used. Greenville County's language is a little more confusing. I'm fairly certain you could argue the point with them, if there was a problem, and if they will not budge, I'd suggest getting to a clerk that understands the law properly.

K1s are certainly eligible for an SSN. The guide here tells you what you need. If you encounter any issue with an SSA employee, request a supervisor and point out to them in their own policy that states you are eligible. As long as you are listed in the I-94, you should be in the SSA database. http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Exactly the same experience for us with marriage license. The county web page said SSN and photo ID. When I called and said SSN not available quickly enough, she explained MUST provide SSN if you have one. If you don't have one, then not a requirement.
