Hi everyone! Nich-Nick had answered this question a bit the other day. But I just had some further questions regarding Josh driving when he comes over to America. Josh has taken lessons in the UK before, but didn't pass his test and then he went to Uni and never needed to get his license. We're trying to decide if he should take some more lessons and pass his driving in the UK before moving here. Does anyone know what steps Josh has to take to get his driver's license in the US? Is it easier to get his license here if he already has a UK license or does it make no difference?? Thanks! Just don't want to spend extra money if its not necessary! :)

I answered your other post here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/537652-driving-in-america/?p=7489537 specific to your state Illinois. Driving is a state regulated thing so there are 50 sets of requirements. In general, most K1s are not going to get a license until they have EAD.

Good luck Kimberley! Almost time for your arrival at the embassy.

At my friends for the weekend, her Mum works for an American Immigration attorney in the UK. She told me that apparently before you're called up for an interview your visa has already been approved or denied (or postponed for further evidence) and the interview is literally just a last minute check to see if you are who you say you are kinda thing.

Going up to London tomorrow! Nerves are kicking in ?

Good luck, lady! You'll be fine =D

Do you mean before you ever get an interview letter, or that the interviewer has looked through your file in the minutes before your turn at his window?

I know that is a scary though about the whole approval/denial/pending approval process! I didn't send in a lot of initial evidence such as a gazillion of pictures or chat logs upon filing. I only sent copies of flight tickets, boarding passes and like 6 photos if that, letter of intent and a letter of how we met. Kindof worries me. I have, however made an album booklet and sent it to my finace for his interview. He can print off chat logs on his end.

You'd be surprised what they asked me for. It was next to nothing. I had Bank statements, tax returns, divorce papers (not mine), deeds to the house, co sponsors, support payments, savings accounts, checking accounts, employment letters and who knows what else. All they asked for was my support of affidavit and the employment letter and name change proof with police certificate. I was pretty much prepared for any scenario. The strange thing is, they never even used my co-sponsor and I was questioned why I don't have much evidence. I didn't have much evidence, because it wasn't taken from me at the front desk, but offered it. They just questioned me and it's all that mattered I guess. I don't know, but they didn't seem that hung up on paperwork as most of it was already there. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take something.

he has all my tax docs this year and last, a photo album, letter of intent (updated), aff. of support, employer letter ect. I will tell him to print off some chat logs to send as well. A question that came up as we were having our nightly routine talk. How long is a travel permit for as he would like to travel every couple of months to do some pharmacy work while awaiting his AOS. is this permissible? Will we have to apply for a new one each time or, is it given per se like for six months or a year expires then you petition to renew if AOS has not happened? He wants to be useful and I want him to feel that way with his professional license

Congrats Kimberley!!

Do you mean before you ever get an interview letter, or that the interviewer has looked through your file in the minutes before your turn at his window?

The latter. The time you spend waiting for the interview is the time they're looking over the paperwork and making the decision. So once you get called up to talk to them they know if they're going to approve you or not. It makes sense why the interview is so short and casual in some cases.
