My K1 visa was approved today at the US embassy in London, obviously pending successful AP. I was expecting to say an oath or to be given a leaflet of some kind but didn't- just got the birth certificate, police form and I134 back whilst they kept my passport and was told "you're approved" and that was it. Hopefully that sounds about right!

There was a nice little group of K1 and marriage visa applicants in today :) a few of us had a nice chat and it was lovely

Congrats!!!! :D

Congrats on the recent approvals ?

I did my POE on Saturday at Atlanta.... huge immigration queue that the staff sent me into, then after about 5mins they pulled me out of the queue & took me to the tripod area to be processed. Waited there about 10mins & was through.... No questions just the 90 day explanation & the processing officer was really jolly!!

My fiancée was straight back to work on Monday so I'm having some acclimatisation time & learning how to use all the appliances ?

I'm on the K1 my other half called the SS department and they said that they needed work papers for one to be processed.

In the guide section, there is a guide for SSN explaining it all. A K1 is authorized and there is a link to a Social Security document that you can print and show them if they don't know their own rules. Or ask for a supervisor if you can't get anywhere. Your window as a K1 is until two weeks before your I-94 expires. After that, the window opens again when you get EAD. Go in person with the documentation listed in the guide.

I went in person to get SSN, simple form to fill out, got the card within a week. Was definitely easier going into the office. Marriage today, got our 1st car together as well :):)

What's the deal with SSN's? the good lady called and was told we needed work papers.

Went in with my SSN application form, passport, BC for additional ID & I-94.... All good until the curse of the middle name struck!! Seems really common from searching on here that something to do with the database at POE puts first name & middle name as given name on the I-94. This then didn't match exactly & couldn't be completely added due to too many letters! They've sent it away for verification & should be about 4 weeks. No big issue at this stage, just hope it won't cause issues later on in the process??

A failure of the automated I-94 system that populates from a passport scan. The old paper form only had first and last name and you got a SS card that way...no middle name or initial.

Interesting - is there any way of avoiding this? I've looked at my previous I-94s and my middle name is always included with First (Given) name. That isn't likely to change. To preempt it on the SSN application form though, could I just just write both my forename and middle name in the 'First name' section too? Or just prompt the person at the Social Security office about the issue?

Simon.
