Like each of you, when I was new I believed everything the Filapinas posted in the K1 forum about everything needed for the I-134. It's kind of a perpetuating myth passed down with "I heard....."

I prepared lots of financial things to show income and investments. I was at the interview with my fiancé and the document lady handed back everything except one form showing a monthly amount I get because my first husband died. The interviewer saw none of the rest and did not even mention the affidavit of support. That one form was over the poverty level so the enough. Since then I have read 8 years of experiences in London. Hundreds of them. No K1 has ever had to come up with lots of proofs. They may accept them all if you push them under the glass, but they approve on one thing if that's all you have. They are very lenient and will take just about anything that shows the income. They have accepted just 100% of the poverty level. They accept an I-134 from another person instead of the fiance...yes, nothing at all from the fiance.

So what goes wrong for a K1 in London?

Not having your parent name(s) on your birth certificate. They call it the long form birth certificate.

Ordering the wrong police certificate from Australia. That country requires fingerprints to get the proper one.

Having a passport that expires in 6 months or less.

Having a UK police certificate saying "No Live Trace". It means you have a police record and they need a Subject Access Report from ACPO or something from the court stating your crime or caution details.

What if your father is not named on your birth certificate, I have the long one but the father section is blank?

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

Other things that can go wrong....

leaving your passport at your house while you're on the train to London (have heard about this one happening).

Misplacing your documents with less than 24hrs to go for your interview. (This one happened.. men just get so flustered...).

Worrying that something silly about a potato chip might appear on your UK police certificate for no reason (Again coming from the flustered male.)

Worrying that the IO can't understand your accent. (this did actually come true, but was funny nonetheless)

:P:D:joy:

Ladies and gents with upcoming interviews, you'll be just fine, with no problems. Promise.

Thats's why I wrote name(s) meaning one name or two. People with only a Mum name have had no problems

Hahaha. That was a funny one. Do you remember the guy who started at least 10 threads because he was positive he would be denied because he got a caution for wearing an orange traffic cone on his head? He sent me at least that many PMs as well. I am not great at hand-holding once I have said "you will be fine". Must admit I was really happy when that one was over.

London wants you to succeed. There are certain documents they must verify like passport, police certificate, financial support; but they don't care about your Facebook or Skype or photo albums. That's for other consulates maybe, but not London. Take as much as you want if it makes you feel better, but don't leave your passport at home because you are distracted triple checking all the excess. :P

I can only emphasis what a lot of people are saying on here

As Brits we get it easy, we are a low fraud country and the Embassy just needs the correct paperwork to be in order

Most of the refusals, RFE's, denials are from the higher risk countries

You can over think and worry yourself to death if you read the Philippines (as an example) forum and use it as a basis for your paranoia lol

The medical/interview are the easy part

You'll be here soon

I am never stepping into the Philippines or African forums, their posts on the monthly fliers are terrifying enough thank you

I know that there is no reason for me to be denied, I think the worrying is natural though, its such an huge decision to uproot your whole life and move to another country - having the possibility that you could be denied and your future jeopardised is just stressful.

For the USC they mostly get to continue with life as normal throughout the whole process, the really big changes don't happen until after approval and to a large extent life will be the same even then, but for those of us making the move the changes start as soon as the petition is filed - we start mentally separating from our current life, making life changing decisions like selling the house, leaving our jobs, saying goodbye to friends, family and accepting that we have made a choice that is going to change every aspect of our lives.

It is a decision I have no regrets making but the process can be tough at times, I know where I want to spend the rest of my life and just want to get on with it now :)

This place has been both a life saver and a torturer, the support is incredible but thanks to VJ I now know of a million things that can go wrong that never would have occurred to me

Pretty much agree with what Nick says about the interview & medical on the same day - yes it's an extra trip to London with the added expense but not everyone's medical is straightforward. For example at my medical the doctor said I had a swollen thyroid that needed investigating by my GP. This took 6 weeks of GP appointment, specialist referral (had to go private because of the 10 week delay on the NHS), then an ultrasound followed by a follow up with the specialist to sign me off & do the letter for Knightsbridge!

They were really quick at the embassy - my appointment was at 9am. I arrived at 755 & joined the line. Was through security & in by about 840. Called for my docs at 905 (took about 10mins), called for interview at 10 & out of the building by 1020! Only saw about 10 immigrant numbers on the screen while I was in there.

AOS - I've pretty much completed all the forms for AOS, EAD & AP. Apart from the things that I'll get after the wedding all the docs are ready to go.

This is my list so far…….. comments if necessary lol (obviously if you've never been arrested or aren't adopted then you won't need those items)

Here are a few things that I learned from being in the September and October AOS filers forums.

1. Make sure your forms are the latest ones. A few of the October filers got dinged for that one.

2. Household size was not filled out correctly.

3. If the previous years tax transcript/return does not meet the income requirements and the current years wages does...show a lot of evidence.

I am sure there are a lot of other reasons to get an RFE for the AOS process but these are the ones I saw over and over.

So glad to see that you heading this way soon. Best of luck!!!

I see that some of y'all are getting close to heading this way to the states for the next step. I HIGHLY recommend using Nich-Nick's AOS checklist. It was very helpful and we were once again able to make it thru the process with no RFE. AOS interview set for Feb 19th.

Thanks again Nich-Nick! You know we would be lost without you!

Congratulations on filing. If you don't want a flu shot, go to the medical after March 31. Meanwhile start checking on what immunizations you have had with somebody who can look it up for you. Then make a plan to get any you need. Mostly check on dates you got immunized for MMR and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (and/or Tetanus/Diphtheria).

Random question, I recently changed Doctors in my area and with my new practice I can log online to make appointments etc. I can also see when I had my childhood vaccinations with the dates I had them.

Could I print this out and take it to the medical when I get to that stage or would I be best making an appointment with my GP and getting her to sign off my vaccination record? (I need to have another tetanus jab at some point)

Thanks :)
