All my family were really against it at first, especially with how quick everything got done as i told them it would take atleast 6/7 months ? luckily theyre warming up to it now, still not happy about it, but they are happy im happy :)

Unfortunately everything my father does, he does in extremes ;) he'll calm down.

Psychology :)

Haha, fingers crossed it's soon! Oh, nice! What Uni did you go to?

luckily both my parents are supportive and always say do what makes me happy, I have already promised my mum I will pay for her to come visit us in America when we can afford it and she has always wanted to go there. Also there is already plans for when we will come visit England as well. All my family are supportive, I am unsure about my Nan, Aunt and Uncle though as the whole time at Christmas they never once asked about my fiance and America, I felt about uncomfortable, as they asked how my sister is doing in life but not about mine. It could just be they are unsure what to say about it, it's an odd situation.

I'm glad that your immediate family are happy! I think some people don't understand certain walks of life, like falling in love with a foreigner and immigrating, so they're unsure of what to say/ask. I lived in Japan for 2 years and you'd be surprised at how little my family and friends ask about it!

Finally happy to say I have my EAD in hand, been wanting this for months!

And guess what?

I can't do anything with it!

I had no idea it would be 6 months from when I start learning to drive until I'd be able to drive alone.

Maybe I was being pretty blonde to think that.

And no one is hiring right now within walking distance, I keep checking though!

So the only thing I can do now is revise for my written test and then beg my husband to wake up earlier before he works (he works 3-11 so gets up around 1ish every day) to take me driving! And he has this massive dumb truck, I'll never get used to trucks, so that'll be interesting.

So much follows the k1, in an evil way, I can't wait for some more English peeps to be finished with theirs and follow the rest of us bored housewives! ? ( and house husbands)

Daisy, did you drive in England?

Gary has had an easy adjustment to driving because he was here for 3 months over the holidays, before he went back to finish out his packet 3 stuff. The only car he can't drive in our family is my car, he says the brakes are too twitchy. He can drive a big diesel truck, a small petrol truck, and my mom's SUV. I think it may just be a guy think tho. Not trying to be funny or misogynistic, but he can jump in any car and be fine. Me? I have to warm up to it. xD He claims he is fine, because he drove for years in England.

I love following all of your journeys. I dont have much up to date input on timelines or anything these days as its been 3 years since i paid too much attention. I just waited 9 months for ROC at Vermont so things seem to be slow for everything.

I really hope that you all keep us updated on how things are going when you start your new lives!

As for banks etc, they accepted my National Insurance number after a bit of a fight. They wanted proof of address but i had my UK bank statements sent to my ex husbands parents house so i just used that as proof. They never updated my SSN when i got it and gave it to them though which was a pain when money went missing from my account and i was trying to stop the card over the phone and couldn't because of how they put the numbers in. I switched to a Credit Union after that and ill never look back. I had my GC and SSN by that time though.

Christmas was horrible my first year. At my ex husbands parents they just bought some cold meat and sub rolls and told us to make a sandwich for Christmas dinner. That in my book ruined it totally. My first impression of an American Christmas was all wrong. The year after just sucked and last year i went to work and honestly, i liked it better. One of my colleagues got me a Cadbury selection box! She left it on my desk and i was so happy. It was the only gift i had received too. You will all find your place as will your families.

My drivers license i needed my GC and SSN in New York. I dont recall having to prove my address or anything, just prove my identity so i had to wait a little until the SSN came then i also applied for jobs and got my first one within a couple of weeks.

Good luck to you all! If anyone has questions that i may know the answer to or anything NY related for people heading this way feel free to ask!

Too true! I stayed with Gary for 5 months last year, and many times we went to London and I was just freaking out. I always try to make him drive, because I know if he can drive around Mayfair, he is FINE in the US!

I've tried emailing the "delivery issues" email address on the visa log in, filled out the DX contact form AND I've tweeted them! Not sure what else I can do! I might just type in the address, the address of the courier pick up location if all else fails haha!
