The medical can only be done once you have received your case number from NVC. You can either get this by phoning NVC following your NOA2 and seeing if they have assigned you one yet, or by waiting for NVC to send your petition to the local embassy, who will then send you 'packet three'.

Upon receiving your NOA2 it is a good idea to start sorting out the affidavit of support and applying for any police certificates that the beneficiary needs.

Hope this helps!

As soon as you get your NOA2 you can start gathering required documents. For some you may also need to wait until you get the NVC case number first.

The medical will need to wait until at least you have the NVC case number, or you have scheduled a visa interview already. Don't do the medical too far in advance because the validity of the visa is generally tied to your medical exam. The visa is usually issued with a validity period of 6 months from the date of the medical.

I am not sure about the Vancouver Consulate, but for Montreal, you cannot book your medical without having an interview date first. However, you can definitely start organizing your other paperwork and make sure your immunizations are up to date.

Hi Andymack,

Thanks for the advice... I was wondering about the immunizations as well. Do you know which ones are a must-have ?

I found a lot of immigration websites that had long lists, but when I actually checked the website of Dr. Zatzman (whom I hope to get an appointment with eventually) he had a nice, easy to understand list which I printed out and brought to my doctor along with my vaccination records so she could figure out what I was missing.

Perfect! Thanks I will do the same. Looks like your process is moving along quickly. Unfortunately we got assigned to the Texas Service Center :( - looking like a much longer wait for our application. Wish you all the best!

Yeah, I am pretty lucky that we got sent to CSC, and that CSC is currently moving quickly. I feel for you TSC filers...everytime I get impatient with waiting during this process (Like right now, waiting a week for my Packet 4 from Montreal), I think of all the people who still don't have their NOA2 and it's humbling.

I hope your process goes as smoothly as possible!

You will have plenty of time from the moment your NOA2 gets in and the interview. It takes almost a month for the petition to go from USCIS, To NVC and then Montreal. I got NOA2 december 9th and my interview in Montreal will be February 17th. I had everything ready and sent my packet3 the day it said ready in Montreal.

good luck :)

All doctor's in Toronto require interview date to book you an appointment. I called all three and they refused to book appointment without interview date.

Don't bother with Dr Zatzman's office. you would be lucky if his office ever answers your phone or even bother's to reply to your voice mails. Go to Mascarenhas or Lee. I went to Mascarenhas, he was friendly and I had my results back in 4 days.

Visa's expiry date is 180 days after your medical date.

This is also true for Vancouver. There's also only one doctor for Vancouver, so do make sure you book your medical (by email) as soon as you get an interview date.

I went to my family doctor and they send me for an antibodies test to see what I had/needed for vaccines. A couple of the vaccines need 2 doses if you're missing them (but you should have gotten them as a kid I think), so do this early in case you need time in between vaccine doses.
