WE HAVE TO PAY 700$ A MONTH FOR INSURANCE OF 2 CARS!!!!!

Another comment: We pay $281 every six months for one car and that's full coverage through Georgia Farm Bureau. No, I don't own a farm nor are we farmers. We pay a $25 year membership fee and are eligible for auto and home insurance. The more you insure with them the cheaper the rates seem to be. I've been with them for 25 years now and so far I haven't found anyone to meet or beat their rate.

It's crazy - shop around! There are insurance companies that will take into consideration your driving experience outside the US. Farmers Insurance, for example, will do it.

As soon i had to receive this form from the insurance, that i am insured and got my drivers licence, the insurance (Geico) added for only 3 month 1500.-$ just for me!! They told us, because i have to start as a newbie from zero again, (even if i drive 23 years) the amount is that high.... But, even if its like this, for God sake, i am sure, no normal person ( not millionaire) can pay 700$ per month only for the car insurance  ! My hubby is only working, i am still waiting for the greencard. i have a 5 year old child in top. and i have to bring her 3 times a week to the day care. so, i need to use the car, as well for shopping and so... dokes anybody as well has to pay such a crazy amount? or is it just this insurance??? i wonder how that amount can be payed.... we cant... thanks for ur advices! :)

No, Switzerland (like the rest of the European mainland) drives on right--otherwise, its road connexions to France, Italy, Austria and Germany would be A MESS to administer.

I started looking a quotes as I passed my test last weekend (many years driving in UK) Geico wanted 1860 for 6 months. The cheapest was 475. That is a HUGE difference! Interesting about farmers though and the no claims certificate. I will check that out

I'm with Allstate. Been with them for years. The few times that I've had a claim, they delivered the check to me, in person, at my place of employment or my home, depending upon the time.

I have 2 vehicles on my policy; one with full-coverage and one with just basic coverage. I pay $95/month.

I have never had a problem with Allstate.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

You're making a joke....right?

edsperfect may actually not be knowledgible about Europe vs. UK.

However, the REAL joke is Geico's claim of "saving" customers lots of $$--when I'm not the only one who has found Geico quotes substantially higher (rather similar in magnitude to the difference of airfare between United and Delta/American that I got for a return Atlanta-Calgary flight in 1997), even to those who WORK at Geico's Bethesda HQ!

We're in NC too and we are covered by State Farm. For 3 (old) cars, a mini-van and an old camper we are paying about $600 every 6 months.

I am not looking forward to adding our two 15-year olds who just got their learner's permits. I'm hoping the premium won't go up too much as all our vehicles are old. We'll have to check if it's possible to exclude our sons on some cars (like my husband's 1969 Le Mans convertible) but then again, I'm sure they'll do everything they can to convince their dad to let them drive his cool car.

We are with All State too and pay $145 a month for 2 cars - full coverage - and a small utility trailer. Definitely shop around! My husband has been with them for years and has always had excellent service (yeah, he has had a few accidents over the years - but then he is driving the Atlanta Interstate 'parking lot').

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

One has to shop around in the USA for everything.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Bonjour de la californie, It's always good also to give it a try, let the insurer knows how long you have been driving and provide them a copy of your switzeland driver's license. when added my wife to my car insurance, my agent asked us a few questions that lower our premium even more. Multi car discount, Good driver's discount, Beleive it or not They have discount for professional or engineer, Degree and so on, that was with farmers so i am not sure if it applies to all others. A +
