Hey everyone,

I'm an American Citizen and I'm currently on a work and holiday visa subclass 462 here in Australia. My girlfriend(Australian Citizen) and I are trying to see our options in which case would be better to marry. We are debating the two options because in September 2015 she wants to come to the US and live and work with me.

A) Get married here in Australia as soon as possible... What other process will we have to take if we marry in Australia ?

B) Apply for K-1 Visa and hope to be approved by September. Then, get married the US.

As she's an Aussie, depending on her work it might also be worth looking at the E3 visas.

Your chances of getting the CR-1 finalized by Sept are slim to none.

K-1 should be doable if you get sent to the California Service Center for Processing - if your petitioner filing address is in California, you would - they are fast. If you get sent to Texas Service Center you will not make it as they are taking around 7 months just for the petition.

Of course, in this journey, there are no guarantees.

Since you are both living abroad and if you use that address on your I-130 for a CR-1, there is a chance that you'll get fast (under 30 days) processing for the I-130 part. However, there is also a fair chance that you'll be put in the normal queue.
