I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. I have been reading posts and reading posts... Some people say that you must file AP with your AOS petition, and others say that people living in some states can file in person. If I live in California, can I file in person, or must I file with AOS?

Also, just to clairfy I do not need to file for papers to work (I think that it is called EAD) Unless I plan to work in the US right away, correct? If we plan on my US husband working, and me staying at home, then I don't need to file EAD and it will save me the cost of filing for it. Is that right?

Ap applications that are associated with family adjustment cases cannot be filed in person to any district office. They have to be filed at the Chicago lockbox either with your I-485, or after the I-485 has been filed with the NOA from the I-485.

If you want to collect EI from Canada, they will require the EAD... In addition, if you wish to have a DL or any other identification in California, this will also require an EAD. In reality, all three are required... AOS, EAD and AP...

Hmmm. Since I have no intention of working, I don't plan on collecting EI from Canada. I will be quiting my job here, and happily join my new husband in his life down there. Since he travels a lot (within the US) I will travel with him, and not work.

I need an EAD for getting a DL? Hmmm. Could I drive on my BC DL until I get my approval for AOS? It seems silly to pay yet another fee for something that I don't want to use anyway.
