DO NOT HAVE A CEREMONY UNTIL K1 IS FINALIZED!

You do not want to be stuck "Too married to K1 and Not Married Enough for a Spousal Visa."

I think your timeframe is too close for comfort, but it is possible you can get to the US in time via K1. In my opinion if you MUST get married in August, wait and see if you can get the K1 done in time... for us it was 8 months to the day when we got our visa approved, 3 days or so later I had it in hand. If for whatever reason your K1 is not finalized in time for the weding, come to the US, get married OFICIALLY and LEGALLY then LEAVE the country before your visa (or VWP) expires. Once you are back home you will need to apply for a Spousal visa.

Personally I think it would be easier to reschedule the wedding.

You are my hero! That's what I wanted to hear - 8 months :)

As for the wedding - it would not be a ceremony (no marriage license, no marriage certificate, no "by the power invested in me by the state of bladibla," nadda), just a reception, party, if you will. After this party go back to NL where we would wait (im)patiently for the K1.The official and legal marriage would take place afterwards, when K1 is in hand and entered US legally with K1.

I must stress... BE VERY CAREFUL!

That being said, good luck to you, and hope TSC handles your case as fast as possible!

Let us know how it turns out and what you choose.

I got a shot of optimism now and hope will get the NOA2 in May.

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. And will let everyone know how it goes. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone, especially those stuck in the TSC hellhole :)

Well, to add a bit more optimism, its not like we couldnt have finished the medical and paperwork sooner than we did... Use the guides here and see what is going to be needed next. Get all your paperwork in order and maybe even go for your medical around the 8 month mark.

If you have everything ready to go, you should be able to shave a few more days off your wait.

Good luck once again.

Thanks for the heads-up re medical! Good to know that I can do it earlier - maybe will schedule once NVC sends the package to Amsterdam.

I have everything pretty much planned out. JV is a great resource and its people even more so!

We'll start collecting everything in April - police records (valid for 6 months), affidavit information, more relationship proof, etc.

It will be tight, but hopefully doable :)

Thanks again!

Maybe TSC will pick up and transfer a bunch of cases to California ;) maybe December will be part of the transfer...hahaha....would be nice.

Don 't get excited about transfers. The last batch didn't speed TSC up in the slightest. The only people who benefit from the transfer are those who are transferred. If anything, since the transfers in August, TSC has steadily fallen further and further behind.

Hi all

This is my first VJ post, and first I want to take the time to thank the community for all of their help so far. We managed to build our case based on what we found on this website. Huge THANK YOU to all!

Now, here's where it gets darker - we got NOA1 at the end of December 2014 and that our case was assigned to the TSC. And this is when my anxiety started kicking in because we have a wedding set for August. I doubt we'll make it if TSC takes until July to get to our case. Now, to ease my anxiety, can someone please tell me everything's going to be OK and that we will make it in time?

Thanks!

Hi,

As many have already explained it's not good to plan anything before actually having the visa in hand, your embassy will also inform you of that. However if it is possible try to speak with your caterer and the people at the venue .. I don't think it's impossible but it's not certain.

I hope you can do something about it. I know how annoying that can be but it's do-able , Good luck :)

Not to add insult to injury, but be aware that some K1's are taken out of the queue for AP at NVC. That can add weeks, to a couple of months before it gets sent on to your embassy. It happened to us. Instead of getting to the USA for Christmas, I made it in early March.

I'm sorry you may not be able to get everyone from the 'four corners of the earth' to your wedding. Very few people manage that, instead opting for a reception afterwards on a date when everyone can be there. You need to reschedule.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Despite some good advice from many,

sounds like you are setting yourself up for more continuous anxiety.

Not sure USCIS would agree with your thinking and approach,

personally I wouldn't take such risks,

but this is your visa processing and wedding plan...so good luck.

Take it from someone who was in your position, you are cutting it extremely close. We submitted our paperwork in November 2013 and my husband didn't even got through the entire process and arrive in the US a mere TWO DAYS before our wedding in August 2014. Of course we had to deal with the system crash which delayed everything and had that not have happened he would have been in the US by the end of July, but the point is you do not know what is going to happen and how long things will take. I had a LOT of anxiety the week of the wedding and of course a story to tell to our children and grandchildren.

An interesting post.

The VJ.com golden rule and posted many times by our Mods. and some very knowledgeable members on this site is, "never plan and event, or buy a ticket for anything, until your visa is in your passport!"

An example, is I went to Philippines in December 2012, to bring my fiance to the USA, she came here April 24, 2013!

There are so many things that can happen on this journey, and except for a visa in your passport, they are mostly bad. Expect the worst, and hope it does not come.

Very confusing, that you cannot change your wedding month, but none of my business, so unless you want to share, ok, fine.

I would advise, be careful, of any ceremony/party that could be construed as a marriage ceremony, as USCIS has a way of knowing these things.

You sound happy, and content, now the you know what to expect. No guarantees with CSC, and canceling an I-129-F, and filing a new one, will "surely cause" USCIS to look at you a whole lot closer.

I am a novice here, listen to the experts, they are rarely wrong.
