This is a direct quote from the embassy website document checklist:

UK police certificates are valid for one (1) year only. All other foreign police certificates are valid indefinitely, unless the applicant has traveled to the country in the last year. Bearing in mind this information, applicants must ensure that a valid police certificate is presented at the time of their appointment.

Other embassies often say six months, but I'm not sure where you would have read that with regards to London specifically. Any source other than the embassy website itself is probably not that reliable.

Awesome! Yeah must've been some old things or in reference to others and got it mixed up. That's great to know because we can go ahead and order. Glad to have asked now. I did read the London embassy site but I must've just saw the not 6 months sentence and remember it wrong. Lord knows there is a lot to remember date wise. Thanks again! ?

You're welcome The visa is valid six months from the date of the medical, perhaps that's where the six month time frame popped up.

Police Certificates for the United Kingdom: A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO). Further information is available from their website at www.acro.police.uk. This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her. The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate. If the police certifiate states "No Trace" or "No Live Trace", please be prepared to discuss your arrests/cautions/convictions with the consular officer on the day of the interview.

From experience posted many times here: That last sentence is misleading. If your police certificate says "no trace" then all is good. No discussion. If your police certificate says "no live trace" it means there is an expired or hidden conviction or caution that the embassy wants details on. Order a Subject Access Report from ACRO to take to your interview. Good plan to get your police certificate early, so if you discover you have "no live trace" you can order the additional SAR. Those take longer to receive. Don't order one "just in case". You need the regular police certificate anyway so just order it early a few months before your expected NOA2. Then get the SAR if needed. Yes, cautions count from when you were 13 years old if a police record was made.

If this helps at all - my fiance didn't officially order his police certificates (he ordered more than one copy to be safe) until the 2nd of January (remember his medical was on the 12th of Jan) so he had them expedited and they arrived a few days before the medical. Cost a small fortune though...my advice would be to allow a few weeks for delivery if you don't want to pay to have them expedited.

I had my medical on Jan 7th, I suffer from depression and anxiety and currently take medication for it. I went to my GP prior to my medical and got him to write a letter with the magic words...'Gina is not and has never been a danger to herself or others' The doc who did my medical said thats exactly what was needed, and no further issues have arose because of it.I know this as my CEAC changed 3 days later,meaning it was sent straight to the embassy with no need for further investigation.
