Good thinking. This (at least the marriage certificate) can be an invaluable way of convincing the CBP agent of your legitimate status.

On a recent day trip my wife and I took a day trip to Richmond, BC, Canada. We took our passports, her expired GC, the USCIS ROC receipt/extension letter, and a copy of our marriage certificate, and our WA Driver's Licenses . The extension letter and marriage license were in a plastic page save sleeve. We gave our immigration documents to Customs Canada and CBP personnel upon request at each respective entry, without any issues.
