The laundry "area/closet" isnt finished so it makes it handy to work on things in there. Wish the main wasn't RIGHT there so I could put in a bigger shower, but I could anyhow, but it would have to be tiled in, not a drop in POS like what's there. That bathroom was just badly designed and finished but at least my furnace and hot water heater aren't in the middle of the house, which I saw a lot of in the houses we looked at. We have far more space than we need here, but despite it's issues, I am very glad we have this home vs most of the others we looked at. The commute is a bit long, that's about the only downside thus far (oh and the lack of real fence.)

Husband (who is working as an apprentice plumber now) is wondering if it leaks all the time or just immediately around the time you are using the shower.

He also asked if the guy said how much he was going to charge you to fix it.

In other news, we've got a new toilet after 24 hours using the camping toilet.

When the water is running, it leaks.

Guy said he'd fix it for $450 (the tub leak) I think. The upstairs tub faucets he said would be $550 but we did that ourselves with a $60 jobby he recommended from home depot. That's why I'll call this guy back. :) Plus he came out same day that I called him (like a few hours.) Had a book of prices he brought in to show which I really liked. $145 to snake the shower drain. I could probably do it myself by renting a power snake. I just couldn't get a manual in there far enough to do any good.

Nik, your fixtures leak, because they're old, not because the water pressure is high.

You get hot water shock, because your fixtures are old, and don't have the pressure balancing valves in them. Take pics of your faucets.

they replaced all but the tub faucets so they all look new so taking pictures of those won't help you. LOL

The tub should be replaced but it'll be expensive because it's a big, old, single piece tub with sides, I'm sure it was fantastic and new when it was put in but now it's cracked and old. The house is 40 years old. It's just showing it's age. We'll fix issues as they come up. :)

It doesn't need a new roof, or new windows, and I fixed the door draft. I put curtains on the patio door which helps there too. We don't even have furniture guys. There is no couch, just some camp chairs, our computers, 2 beds, and some tvs. Honestly I'd like a couch and a real living room before I have to buy a new tub if this one will get the job done for a few more years.

It appears that you can easily install a giant water hammer arrestor on the 2 vertical pipes on the wall. And why are they 3/4 pipes?

Whadehelis that duct? Is that forced hot air? Who did that? Ray Charles?

haha it's the dryer vent. I know it has "real duct tape" on it. LOL I bet the old home owner did it. I can see all the "home made" done jobs here. He was REALLY bad at it. You don't want to see the mess of telephone wires above me. It's just.. sad...

hahah washer just finished a "speed load" (forgot some clothes in it) in 15 mins. WOOT!!

LOL i don't care... honestly I don't. When we go to redo a bathroom or kitchen, then I'll replace it. Until then, I just don't flush the toilet or use the water when someone is taking a shower. There are two of us and only 1 shower atm. I think we both can wait 20 mins for someone to finish showering.

The toilets are cool, they're the "dual flush" style.. OOOOoooOOO

Omg Nik. Get a 5 dollar snake for shower drain. Shower drains are never clogged with anything other than hair......

I'm getting hypertension reading your posts .....

OMG steve I did get the cheapest snake... $14 at lowes.

I CANNOT GET IT FAR ENOUGH DOWN THE DRAIN TO GET HAIR OUT. It's not like I haven't tried for half an hour to do it. Or more. Multiple times. I just CAN'T. If I could do it, I would have. It gets to a certain point and stops and I cannot push it far enough to get to the hair clog. I've done reading on it. People use power snakes to do it because it's easier to get them down the drain in an basement shower.

I had the same problem with a toilet once, the clog was further than a household/regular snake could get to. Happens. Husband had 2 calls on Friday, both needed a big auger.

Anyways, the Dane said that it could just be an old drain and the seal around/under it has failed, like the old plumber's putty has worn away over the years. It is something you could try to fix and for cheap. An idea.

We should totally stop pestering Niki though. Poor girl.
