ya, vinyl first,

then a shag carpet remnant under the fridge. at least for this week

later, after the 2nd thaw, do the floor like you really want to.

scheduling/doing stuff during feetball week is problematic.

Reading the reviews online it seems the sheet vinyl is apt to tear with even moving the refrigerator. That is no good.

What's under the kitchen? Basement?

What size are the joists now?

Are the joists 16, or 12" center to center?

What's the widest span on the kitchen floor without vertical support?

Is there a "dip" on the floor?

What is the subfloor made of? (Slats, or ply)

It goes about 11ft x 12 ft (plus some when it crosses into another room) across underneath with no vertical support because there are no support beams in the floor there, just the floor joists. We put in new supports on one of the sides and 2 of them are foundation walls.

The joists are 16 inches apart.

The floor will need to be leveled and reinforced to tile - it is still slats with wood floor on top plus a couple of layers of linoleum and vinyl. The weight of the refrigerator and stove caused some sag before that area got a new support column (the old one was swinging in the wind).

Anyway you cut it, it is going to be ripping up the old floor entirely and then doing some reinforcing/bracing work on the joists. Not a small project and not a winter time one.

It's a 10- 12 man-day job. Meaning, 10- 12 shifts. 2 guys, 5-6 days days.

What's under the floor? Basement or crawlspace?

Easy access basement.

Budgetwise, it is a just my husband job, so I'm not sure how I feel about weeks or more without a kitchen.
