I've seen in the school magazine updates, a lot more Chinese students at the boarding school I went to (there had always been a fair number from the typical rich overseas areas). Honestly, I don't get it. The school is not very academic and instead caters to a more free spirited youth who likes mountain sports. The school wouldn't turn down the money, though, even if the kid was not a good fit.

Everyone knows a China degrees means craap. They're bought. The end.

I thought China was great? Why flock to America for school? Where's the mainland arrogance here?

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/unbelievable-things-chinese-students-doing-202022977.html

There are overwhelming number of local graduates in China.

It is the route out of China, get to US and stay. (Overseas study is like 'gold plated', more prestige)

Next time your girl has to study extra hard for college, since cut off points for Asian kids will be very high due to the Chinese competitions.

Maybe full SAT score might not get in either.

Actually, I'm now trying to picture the stereotypical Chinese kid there and laughing - I wonder how they deal with the sex, the disinterest in schoolwork, etc.

Whadahela you talking about? They deal with it the same way. Only worse.

haven't I been tellin' ya all along?

To the Chinaman, the most degrading thing to be in China, is Chinese.

They brag about how awesome China is, china this and china that. Yet, the richest, most powerful, the upper class....all produce a passport and/ or a degree from somewhere else. The USA being the most prestigious.

Yes I know my kids will have to bring something else to the table. And they already do. They carry my name.

Sad to say, I think most Asians suffer from "Pinkerton Syndrome" (degree of sickness varies).

Are you going to donate $$$ to the college so that they will name a lecture hall after you? :content:

Then your kids will get free entry to college.

My cousin's kid went to a Yale presentation. They said "we know you all qualify to be here, what do you have to offer Yale?" This kind of question is a constant now.

No, it's unfortunate. But it has come to that point. I know a lot of people with clout. I'll have to make some calls. I'm going to do it, yes, I am.

But of course, I want my kids to try their very best.

I have 2 classmates from private school who went there (of a class of about 15). One, very very bright, the other was maybe the slowest kid in our class. I never could figure that out besides maybe said slowest kid's athletic ability.

And, it's not that it's pinkerton syndrome. It's just that it's degrading to have a Chinese passport in China.

That's why they drive Buicks, carry Guccis, and wear Rolexes.

I wear a 1 hunnit dollar watch. I'm in a pair of Levis. I drive a Honda. I use a Coach wallet.

Well, I do have a bottle of Darklár noir lol......

Time to groom your kids into Olympic ice skater. :dancing:

Trust me I thought of that lol......

I'll find you a pic.....
