I've got some put aside, but saving won't be a huge problem soon - we have no debt except some of my student loans and within 5 years, those will be gone too. With their rates and the current rates of return on low risk investments, I'd rather pay off the debt first than squirrel away towards retirement.

Retirement is something I worry about - I won't get social security and the Dane isn't going to get something nice like a pension, so yeah, it is important. It is one of the major reasons I am against his dream of building our own bigger house - it doesn't allow us to save like we can in our smaller house that is debt free and mostly renovated. He probably doesn't worry because he won't live long enough to run out of money. :sleepy:

You're entitled to Dutch's social security...

Here are the flowers I send myself.

Well, when he dies.

But, it isn't like we'll have 2 checks coming in every month.

Well, start an IRA....

Pick a fund

An annuity.....

Start now, not when you're 50 (fiddy).....

I was researching them a little bit last month. I might wait the 5 years though, those student loans range between 4-6.8% interest and they go into repayment this month.

We are also yet to be paying taxes, so the tax break is negligible.

Refi your student loan?

Refinance my federal subsidized student loans with what? Leprechaun magic? If I pay them off quickly, it shouldn't be a huge big deal. I already paid off most of the 6.8% ones.

My family is poor peasants, no inheritance.

I do have some insurances, not much money but at least my beneficiaries will have something.

And I intend to keep working as long as I could.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

It was a lot and I've paid a lot of it off, but with the Dane's salary as an apprentice, we can't both pay off more than the minimum on the student loans and save for retirement.

The total amount is less than the average new car loan and half of it is 3.4-4.5%, which isn't really worth it to meddle with.

Speaking of which, I can't believe the average new car loan amount is that high! Geeez.
