This doesn't really matter though as presumably the OP has plane tickets/passport stamps/photos to use as more concrete evidence of being in the same place,

I was just stating to the op that it doesn't prove they were together. Not that that's all they had...

Yes I know, my goodness, I was just pointing out that it didn't matter either way. I never claimed that this is what you were implying! OP is fairly new and I didn't want any concern to be caused, that is all. You don't even need to be together whilst writing letters of intent so whether it proves it or not is totally irrelevant anyway.

Sounds good to me! Wishing you the best of luck with your application!

Also, so sorry you were victims in a street robbery! That's awful!

Thanks. And yeah, the mugging, or whatever you want to call it was pretty scary. It was my fiance's first time out of Costa Rica and while Nicaragua is has a significantly higher problem with petty crime than Costa Rica does, we felt pretty safe right up until then. We were being careful--even walking in the middle of the street (it was past 11 so the street was empty) rather than the sidewalks (so people can't jump out of doorways or alleys). While it was scary and a HUGE hassle (see below) the end result is that no one was hurt and nothing was taken that can't be replaced and we feel lucky for that.

The huge hassle was was this: *normally* we would leave the passports and either my credit or my debit card in the hotel (thought being--keep the cards separate so if one is stolen, you have the other). That day, however we needed my credit card to rent a car, his passport for him to be the driver, and my debit card for cash because we were going to a market. We should have gotten the car and the cash and put the passport and debit card back in the hotel. But we were running late (usual for us) and didn't bother, so all of that was in my purse when it was stolen.

So we spent two days dealing with canceling things, getting cash transfers from my parents and going to and from Managua to the Costa Rican consulate to get his replacement passport. Which OF COURSE is super low tech (photo laminated in--information hand-written in blue ink) and doesn't meet the standards for US visas, so that had to be immediately replaced so that we could start *this* process. The man never had a passport until September. He is now already on his third (and had to pay for them all). Poor thing.

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. 16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

My signature was wet but my fiance's was scanned and I printed it. I received an NOA2 without an RFE. Just make sure if you can't get a wet signature you include a statement that advises if originals are needed you will provide them. This is mentioned on the guide section of this website.

had USCIS caught your fiance's scanned copy you would have been given an RFE. Not good advice to be giving, at all!
