Not exactly. Many of the people in it start to not care - about the Iraqi people or Iraq. So I wouldn't say that good intentions are being projected.

I have access to many of the folks that spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is no love for the people of either country, just contempt. Much like Vietnam, and I am sure any war the US was a participant, they are friendlies when you have guns pointed at them, and enemies when they are pointing guns at you. I remember the Vietnam conflict, and how the soldiers felt then. SOP was, "If it has slant eyes, shoot it. If is has slant eyes and wearing a friendly uniform, hesitate, then shoot it."

You should see some of the videos they posted, where our guys are trying to train their forces and assist them in engaging the designated opposing forces. Those indigenous military and police are just about all cowards, and when you call them on it, they get all upset, and don't like it. So, you tell them, "There is the enemy, right down there. Show us you are not cowards." And they reply, "Sure, no problem, we will follow you." Somehow, they lack the desire and the testicles to engage the enemy on their own.

This policy didn't work.

The referendum this NumbNuts received the last election will actually work. It will take two more years, but it will work.

Well, the numbnuts actually had their go earlier this century. It cost hundreds of thousands of lives that were needlessly wasted and a few trillion dollars needlessly pizzed down the drain thus far. And it gave rise to the Islamic State to boot. The very same numbnuts just gained control of both houses of Congress again. Let us all hope that they won't have the executive branch as well any time soon. If they do, we'll go for hundreds of thousands of more wasted lives and trillions more dollars of uselessly wasted treasure. For it is all those particular numbnuts know how to do.

In general I agree with you, but having been there can assure you that the men who fought in Vietnam did not see the people of that country in such a shallow way. There were millions of people who fully supported us and our mission. Many of them escaped and now live here in the USA. Far too many were murdered for their beliefs, just like happens today in Islamic countries. It's always been that way throughout history. There is nothing new under the sun. What is a successful war? Has there ever been one? Is the cost of hundreds, and thousands, and millions of lives a reasonable price to pay so that your ideology and people can remain safe?

The wounds of war will survive and grow, and thrive where we least expect it. That's why killing every living thing was the first choice of history's successful warriors.

Je suis Chris

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I keep hearing that, but I have yet to meet one.

And I was living and working close to one of the places that processed many of the ethnic chinese refugees that were brought here after the Fall of Saigon. It did not take long for them to hunt down every stray dog and cat in the area. We even had a dog skin in our office we found outside the perimeter fence. We called him, "Spot". Very well behaved and could do tricks, like, "Stay", "Lie down", and "Play dead."

Okay, fair enough. I haven't seen it myself, and not in a position to judge and so I'll take your word for it. Edited by InKorea

I have not seen it, but from what you describe it tells me that the narrative of the movie is about saying that we Americans are not perfect, but have ultimately good intentions, and unlike the savages fighting against America, our objective is not to murder innocents unless we have no other choice. Maybe not pro-war, but maybe a little self serving?

Seems like a fair description.

Breibart is infamous for irresponsible pieces of reporting, such as this. Having said that they are entitled to their opinion. So long as there is market for their swill, they'll continue to pander to their select clientele.

What do you expect coming off of Breitbart?

It's hilarious that his entire angle for that story comes from the use of a single word which appears once, towards the bottom of the article he is complaining about. An article that did not originate with the BBC at all but was taken from syndicated piece from a wire service.

The funny thing is while there aren't many facts in the BBC story (because it's a 'we've been told' piece), the language chosen takes no position on whether or not the claim about the film allegedly causing an uptick of violence against Muslims is true or not, only that a claim to that effect has been made and whether or not the films producers responded to the allegation.

The BBC article isn't overtly biased but the Breitbart one really is. He takes a opinionated position on one side of the issue without even attempting to weigh the facts.
