For most Americans, drawing a parallel between the Iraq War and the Revolution is uncomfortable to say the least. We had more in common with the British while in Iraq than American Rebels.

Indeed war is uncomfortable. In every war there is an enemy. The enemy is always on the other side. It wasn't long ago that scorched earth was war policy for the US. Perhaps the advent of smart weaponry causes some politicians and members of the public to believe that war is a humane activity.

Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

There will be quite a few brits that actually watch this movie. Those who don't are cut from the same cloth as their red-coat ancestors who freaked out when Americans refused to line up in a straight line so that british could shoot them. Instead, American minutemen hid behind trees and played "shoot and scoot," with the brits. To the Americans, those red-coated brits were the enemy. To their mommies back home they were victims.

I really don't think you can draw even half a conclusion about a persons beliefs based on whether or not they choose to watch a random movie. The suggestion is so nonsensically and irrationally stupid it beggars belief.

Perhaps when the government of the day was planning Iraq they should have given some thought to Vietnam...

I saw it the first Saturday - before all the commentary started to come out.

I think people are seeing what they want to see from the film in my opinion.

My reaction was this - I left the film pretty sad. Its not a feel good type of film that glorifies war or the decisions made at the time. It doesn't really delve into the mindset of the Iraqi insurgents, its completely from Chris' point of view and as such the people he is shooting are 'the enemy'.

Spoiler*

There is a scene where a man drives into an alley and walks out with an RPG aiming it down the street where US forces are. Chris shoot him. Then a small boy goes and picks it up and Chris starts to break down and wishes for the boy to drop it - luckily he does.

End spoiler.

I don't see it as a pro war type of of film.

I have not seen it, but from what you describe it tells me that the narrative of the movie is about saying that we Americans are not perfect, but have ultimately good intentions, and unlike the savages fighting against America, our objective is not to murder innocents unless we have no other choice. Maybe not pro-war, but maybe a little self serving?

Not exactly. Many of the people in it start to not care - about the Iraqi people or Iraq. So I wouldn't say that good intentions are being projected.

The concept of fighting a war and making friends is one of the biggest frauds sold to Americans this century. Ghengis Khan realized that it was to his advantage to kill all the males of fighting age, and to spare the younger men. The younger men could then be taught to support him and later to fight for him.

The war against terror is not a police action where one or two bad guys can be taken out with a smart weapon. These people want to kill Americans. That is their culture. They invented it. We will kill it.
