BBC Describes Terrorists Killed In War By Chris Kyle as ‘Victims’

by John Nolte26 Jan 20151079

According to the BBC, Chris Kyle shot “victims” not evil barbaric terrorists determined to take the lives of American Marines and/or innocent Iraqi civilians. In an irresponsible piece of reporting that details no facts about the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) claim that “American Sniper” is “behind a rise in anti-Muslim threats,” the BBC writes:

But [American Sniper] has caused controversy. Some have hailed its portrayal of Kyle as a war hero, but others have criticised it for glorifying violence and for Kyle’s attitude towards his victims.

Kyle, a Navy Seal, served four tours of duty in Iraq and killed more than 160 people, making him the most deadly sniper in American history.

The film is based on his book, also titled American Sniper, in which he claimed to have no regrets and referred to those he killed as “savages”.

The last paragraph is correct but incomplete. Kyle not only referred to the terrorists he shot as “savages,” he correctly referred to them as “evil savages.”

Describing terrorists killed in war before they could murder as “victims” is like describing the BBC as unbiased morally literate news outlet.

Kyle killed those savages in an act of self-defense, and served with honor and distinction in a barbaric war the barbarians chose to make barbaric

Probably need to see the film before rendering a judgement. I have not seen it. Have you?

I saw it the first Saturday - before all the commentary started to come out.

I think people are seeing what they want to see from the film in my opinion.

My reaction was this - I left the film pretty sad. Its not a feel good type of film that glorifies war or the decisions made at the time. It doesn't really delve into the mindset of the Iraqi insurgents, its completely from Chris' point of view and as such the people he is shooting are 'the enemy'.

Spoiler*

There is a scene where a man drives into an alley and walks out with an RPG aiming it down the street where US forces are. Chris shoot him. Then a small boy goes and picks it up and Chris starts to break down and wishes for the boy to drop it - luckily he does.

End spoiler.

I don't see it as a pro war type of of film.

Seems like such an obvious statement. Would you prefer they be called, "Martyrs"?

Here is the BBC article. What the author of the OP piece may have missed is that this is actually a story that was provided by Reuters, a wire service, and not one that the BBC itself wrote and researched. There is a difference.

The only facts in the article are that a claim was made by the ADC. No claim is made by the BBC that what the ADC is saying is right.

I'd say it's quite funny that the author of the OP piece is making the claims that he has, given that he has completely missed the origin of the story. Then again, I think most of us know that the ommission was deliberate and that the author wouldn't have got the same reaction if Reuters was the source.

American Sniper film 'behind rise in anti-Muslim threats'
_80357869_bradley1.jpgBradley Cooper has been nominated for best actor at the Oscars for his role in American Sniper

The release of the film American Sniper has led to an increase in threats against Muslims in the US, according to an Arab-American civil rights group.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) has written to director Clint Eastwood and star Bradley Cooper.

Their film is based on US soldier Chris Kyle's service in Iraq from 2003-09.

The ADC said a "majority of the violent threats we have seen over the past few days are result of how Arab and Muslims are depicted in American Sniper".

The organisation, which describes itself as the largest Arab civil rights organisation in the US, said it had collected "hundreds of violent messages targeting Arab and Muslim Americans from movie-goers", mainly from Facebook and Twitter.

The letter asked Eastwood and Cooper to speak out against such messages "in an effort to reduce the hateful rhetoric".

"Your visibility, influence, and connection to the film would be a tremendous force in drawing attention to and lessening the serious dangers facing the respective communities," ADC president Samer Khalaf wrote.

Jack Horner, a spokesman for the Warner Bros film studio, which released the film, told the Reuters news agency that the company "denounces any violent, anti-Muslim rhetoric, including that which has been attributed to viewers" of the film.

He added: "Hate and bigotry have no place in the important dialogue that this picture has generated about the veteran experience."

Spokespeople for Eastwood and Cooper had no immediate response to requests for comment, Reuters news agency reported.

American Sniper has been a major hit in North America, exceeding box office predictions by taking $90m (£59m) in its opening weekend - a record for a January release. It also has six Oscar nominations.

Film controversy

But it has caused controversy. Some have hailed its portrayal of Kyle as a war hero, but others have criticised it for glorifying violence and for Kyle's attitude towards his victims.

Kyle, a Navy Seal, served four tours of duty in Iraq and killed more than 160 people, making him the most deadly sniper in American history.

The film is based on his book, also titled American Sniper, in which he claimed to have no regrets and referred to those he killed as "savages".

Kyle was killed in February 2013 on a firing range in his home state of Texas.

It's well-known that hillary, her clan, and lefty supporters prefer to have a sing-a-long with the enemies of the US, so they can somehow paint the world like an Andy Warhol can of soup. Obama would shrivel up like a prune if he ever uttered the words islamic terrorist.

The majority of Americans are flat sick and tired of hearing this white house blame the people of America for theAssWipes of the world that cut off heads in the name of their god.

Nothing to do with the topic whatsoever. If you want to talk about Hillary etc. you should probably start a new thread.

There will be quite a few brits that actually watch this movie. Those who don't are cut from the same cloth as their red-coat ancestors who freaked out when Americans refused to line up in a straight line so that british could shoot them. Instead, American minutemen hid behind trees and played "shoot and scoot," with the brits. To the Americans, those red-coated brits were the enemy. To their mommies back home they were victims.
