Very common story in UK tabloids, unlimited supply.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

It obviously happens, but what the tabloid press publishes is a construction of reality. It creates a distorted view of what is really happening.

Not uncommon in certain areas.

Working the system.

What is the evidence that it is or isn't common?

Tabloid news headlines isn't evidence - it's an inference someone wants you to make on deliberately selective information.

12 kids and living off welfare, some people just really know how to live it up on the government's dime.

There was a quote by the chancellor a little whike ago that welfare needed to cut because there were people receiving up to £100k in welfare payments. A guardian journalist questioned that claim by submitting a freedom of information request to the department of work and pensions.

Want to know how many people were receiving that amount in benefits? About a half dozen. In a country of over 50 million.

I think it proves to some extent that the number of people severely abusing the welfare system is extremely limited (certainly not what the tabloid media depicts it as) and that fixating on extreme families isn't proof of anything at all.
