no - it ain't black market, at all.

it's legally, and allowed. who cares about Hershey? :D

The wholesaler ain't shipping to the USA. big deal. There are other wholesalers.

You wanna have more fun? Study the other wholesalers in the UK , who they sell to..

But I digress. No, I'm not kidding - GO ETHNIC !

The first time I made yorkshire puddings here they were terrible, my then boyfriend now husband didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Since that disastrous attempt I have shown him what I really meant by a yorkshire pudding, and he loves them!

As I keep trying to tell my distressed and angry fiancé on the subject, a company cannot ban the importation of anything in the US. Only federal regulations can do that. So one wholeseller decided to stop because of Hershey's threats. This doesn't mean others will. I'm fairly sure that nothing will prevent you from going to amazon.co.uk and shipping to the states. No customs agent is going to raid your packages of chocolate. It's going to be expensive... but if you love that chocolate so much...

Personally I am blasphemous in saying the only British chocolate I can stand the taste of is Thorntons and Green & Blacks, and even then, I'm not so fond of the milk variety. I have seen so many numerous comments trashing American chocolate as foul and bitter. Overall I like my chocolate like I like my coffee - black and strong. The darker the chocolate the more I'll like it. Most Americans grew up on Hersheys in some form as kids, so they don't really understand why it's version of Cadbury's should be so upsetting (not understanding the difference in taste). Chocolate is getting more expensive to produce and harder to come by, some suggesting we may run out eventually. I love my Godiva more these days, but if producers don't do something to help sustainability no one will have chocolate some day. That being said I suspect, Hershey's simply won't be able to afford the blacklash and the tons of lawsuits they would have to launch to prevent other sellers from bringing it in. I do sympathize with all of you though, it's been nearly impossible to pull my fiancé out of a funk this week, that when he moves here he can't have one of the comforts of home..

I fear I will never make a Yorkshire pudding correctly without burning something. I recently tried to make mini scotch eggs, but they simply aren't as good.

Idk about the Yorkshire puddings. Daniel doesn't particularly like them and I've never seen anyone in his family eat them either. I think I'd totally dig them though. Is it reprehensible that I've been to London 14 times, spent almost a year there and never had one?

The only thing Daniel really cares about is his moms roast potatoes. I've deducted that they key is so much oil that they're basically fried? Anyone have any suggestions on how to cook those incredible crunchy potatoes that I've only ever seen so crunchy in the UK? I will have to master those.

Mmmmmm those are yummy! Don't think my friend meant that though....think he meant meat actually cooked into the yorkie as a filling. You've given me ideas now though, gonna have to attempt one of those big yorkies with the dinner in the middle!

Hope you had as much fun with the big storm as I did fellow Bostonian!

I talk often with my local Indian market men -

they all told me that they don't care about the wholesale company handling the stoppage of shipments,

as they all have other avenues to purchase it in the UK and have it shipped to the USA, to their stores,

so

I suggest you 'go ethnic', seek out an Indian market in your locale,

as

they'll have the chocolate you crave,

and the tea you want (and cheaper, usually)

Go Get Em, and Good Luck !

That's a really good idea! Shame the Vietnamese don't dig Cadbury's or my suburb would be a chocolate goldmine!

My guy made Yorkshires for his first American Thanksgiving visit and since I haven't perfected the technique these days I just use some rolls as a cheap substitute. Not the same though. Hmmm the potatoes though! Not sure how his mum does them (and they are awesome aren't they?) but I'd guess this would work.

I was shocked at how much snow actually fell! Can't currently get out of the back door of the apartment building without being knee-deep in snow. Hope you managed to stay warm :)

Roast potatoes! This is what I do and it typically works well. The best kind of potato to achieve this in the UK (in my opinion) is a kind called 'Rooster potatoes' not sure if these can be found in the US I haven't had a chance to look yet but essentially the red ones. I peel them, cut them into the appropriate size then boil them for between 5-8 minutes. I then drain the water and shake them in the pan so that the edges go fluffy.

Meanwhile, have the oven heated and pop the oil on an oven tray. Typically use olive oil but the best kind is peanut oil if nobody has any allergies. Let the tray with oil on it heat in the oven for a couple of minutes then pour the fluffy potatoes onto the hot tray (careful of hot oil flicking off). Then shake the tray a little so the potatoes get nicely coated in oil and then pop in the oven for about 45 minutes, you can turn the potatoes over about half way through if you wish.

Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks, Pheebs. I think heating up the oil must be the key. I've never heard of doing that before. If I can get the potatoes down, Daniel will be a happy man.

We do have red potatoes here. Doubt that it's the same variety but I guess it's the closest thing we've got.

#######!! Hershey is now banned in my household!! I buy UK, chocolate every time i see any in stores. Even the cheap imported European bars from Lidl taste a million times better than Hershey's.

Where do you have a Lidl in the US??

That being said - I buy chocolate at the local Aldi; it's not British chocolate but German which I'm not objecting to (being German and all), but might be a fallback option if the real Cadbury's becomes unavailable...

From chocolate, to yorkies, to roasties. Awesomesauce.

My Mum said she uses goose fat instead of olive oil to coat roasties at Christmas, not exactly healthy but her spuds are epic!
