Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday accepted an invitation by US House Speaker John Boehner to address the Congress in March, the Anadolu Agency reported.
In a statement issued by his office, Netanyahu said the invitation "reflects the special friendship between Israel and the U.S., as well as the strong bipartisan support for Israel throughout the US."
"Just last week I discussed with President Obama the common challenges we face from Islamist extremism, including resurgent terrorism and Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons," he continued.
The statement said Netanyahu will arrive in the US in early March and will attend AIPAC's annual conference.
Earlier, the White House criticised Netanyahu's plan to address Congress saying it represents a "departure from the protocol".

When it comes to lying in front of Congress, Obama hates the competition.

Someone needs to explain exactly what we get from our "relationship" with the country of Israel. Do they import our goods, export valuable goods to us, supply enegry, offer any positive services other than a place to park a few ships and airplanes?

Really, what do we, as a country, get out of it?

Certinaly not stability.

Hypothetical question anyway. Griping out loud.

And Boehner will end up with egg on his face, yet again...

We pay dearly for the premium parking spaces they have to offer... Israel has always been amongst our more amicable foes in the region.

Why? Netanyahu and Israel poll well. Besides, the nature of Netanyahu's visit is two-fold: 1) Raise money for AIPAC and 2) Stick it to Obama for messing with Israel's intention to remain the only nuclear belligerent in the region by sabotaging any agreement that allows Iran to remain within arm's reach of assembling a nuclear device, which would put Iran on an even footing with Israel.

AIPAC. Enough said.

We don't need Israel's military assistance, as a matter of fact, the existence of Israel is counter to US interests. We have no problem finding Islamic states and waters to park and maintain all the ships and planes we could ever desire. As long as the US is doing the heavy lifting, and the oil keeps flowing, then they are more than willing to accommodate us.

In the end the Israelis may stick it to Bibi for being flippant towards the US in what is clearly an electoral maneuver. They know that the US holds the power card in this relationship and they wouldn't want to alienate the leader of the country that makes their existence possible. On the other hand, the case can be made that Israel has come of age and can hold his own before his enemies. Bibi needs to decide if he's going to play like a kid or grown up.

If Netanyahu would have taken a fruit loop and milk bath on the internet Obama would have made time to see him.

He's just not sensational enough to warrant top attention.

The US benefits tremendously from the relationship with Israel. However, I am not getting into all that again as we have already covered it in the past. In this day and age you can use google and do your research, there is no excuse to stay ignorant and ask silly questions like what does the US get out of it.

The one non-Jewish group in the US that supports Israel the most is the Evangelical Christians. Those are the same folks that take the Bible literally and say the earth is only 6000 years old. Man and dinsosaurs all lived together in Eden. What kind of paradise is that, where Adam and Eve are being chased by Velociraptors?

Awesome post. Make a statement and the declare that you will not defend it. I think I'll try that.

No need for me to waste my time repeating myself if people are too lazy to do their research, or have too short of a memory. That's their problem, not mine.
