DS-260 question for K-1 (and other required documents)

Hi all,

I've finally received my appointment letter for my K-1, very happy about that.

so now I registered the appointment and paid the fee required.

I'm just curious and confused about the DS-260... What is this? Do I need to file this?

On the website of the visa appointment service, it shows 'check DS-260' status, but I have no idea what this is. I tried looking on the search option but don't really find any relevant posts.

Is this something I need to file? Do I need to bring the DS-260 with me to the appointment? Sorry, just getting nervous about not having something that I might need.

Then also, I have the following available at the moment for my interview (I made 2 copies of each to be sure)...

- Appointment letter

- DS-160 confirmation

- 4 US sized pictures

- English police report

- Dutch police report (in english)

- Birth certificate

- I-134 (original signed by my fiance)

- Passport (obviously)

Additional supporting documentation:

- printouts of all my flight receipts to the US

- copy of the I-129 filed

- tax papers and pay slips from my fiance in support of the I-134

- recent email exchange between me and my fiance about wedding venues etc.

Would this suffice? Or am I missing something?

Sorry if this is stupid question, just like I said, nervous about forgetting something important.

Thanks again all!

I called the NVC and asked them about it.

They really werent sure either, since a K-1 is a non-immigrant visa which at some point turns into an immigrant visa.

However, the kind lady on the phone gave me the invoice ID number and the Beneficiary ID number so I could log in to do the DS-260.

As soon as I logged in, I got the message:

Summary Information

K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case.

So my guess is that as a K-1 visa, you do NOT need a DS-260... PHEW! :-)

You are a K-1 visa applicant, so the DS-260 does not apply to you.

DS-160 is a non-immigrant visa application, which a K-1 visa is

DS-260 is an immigrant visa application, which a CR-1 visa is.

A K1 never does a DS-260. You don't need to check any status. You have an interview.

This is all you need at a LONDON interview.

Appointment letter

DS-160 confirmation

Passport: must have at least eight months validity left

Birth Certificate: must list parents' names.

Adoption Certificate: If applicable

Name Change Deed Poll: If applicable

Divorce Decree or Death Certificate: If previously married

Police Certificate (and Subject Access Report if it says "no live trace")

Court and Prison Records: If applicable

Military Records: If applicable

Photographs: one US passport style

Evidence of Support (Affidavit of Support): i-134 and one proof of income

Translations: All documents not in English

New letter of intent from USC if petition has expired

Visa Fees: receipt from paying online

Photocopy of important documents you want back.(only 1 photocopy)

Were you born somewhere other than the UK? Are you Muslim? If so you might want those proofs of relationship. Otherwise it is never asked for in London.

Thanks Nick, as always lol..

Ok, so really I got everything and then some :-)

I asked my fiance to send me a new letter of intent, however it might not get here in time as an original. So I'm having her sign it and email it per PDF. As additional proof I have recent emails between both of us regarding planning wedding venues etc. so this should also prove we're still happily moving forward.

I'm born in the Netherlands, but I got my Dutch birth certificate (international version) and a Dutch passport still, so no worries there. And I'm not religious at all, so shouldnt be an issue either.

Regarding the visa fees, I'm assuming you're talking about the 180GBP give or take that I had to pay when I 'confirmed' my appointment on Visa Appointment service website?

Dutch born should be fine. People from the Middle East or suspected terrorist countries or Muslim sometimes get some extra scrutiny in London.

Yes the fee you paid online should have a receipt. Did you also schedule courier delivery at the same time.

Sounds like you will be fine. Your letter of instruction from London likely mentioned the new letter of intent if your interview wasn't by a certain date. However they don't always ask for it despite telling you to bring it.
