Hello guys. I just want to know if somebody here has the same situation or at who can enlighten me about this?

I sent my N400 a week ago and they emailed me saying wait for the NOA, and since I have the replica of my n400, I looked at it again and found out (don't know why I did not see it before maybe too much excitement and nervous) that I checked the married box for question "were your parents married before your 18th bday?" When in fact they are not married. How can I correct it?

P.S. no plan of petitioning father in the future because he was out of the picture ever since.

Thank you very much for all the inputs guys.

Ok so if we are at this question I just want to make sure how should I answer it because I'm a little confused. My parents were married before my 18th birthday but they got divorced before my 18th birthday. Should I answer yes?

Your parents were married before your 18th birthday, so the answer is yes. If asked if your parents were married ON your 18th birthday, then the answer would be no.

Note that they really only care about this if one of your parents is a US citizen. The way the form is set up, you still have to answer this question but if you look at the instruction document, it tells you to only answer Part 5 if one of your parents is a US citizen I think the form isn't set up quite right It should've said "only fill out part 5 if one of your parents is a US citizen" on the form itself. Regardless, the answer to that question in your case is yes.

Print a corrected version of the page you made error on. I had 2 mistakes on my N-400 form. During my interview, I took along print-out of the corrected page and just asked the IO to replace it. No big deal. Hope this helps.

Thank you JimmyHou! Actually my mom is a US Citizen but I don't think I qualify for automatic citizenship... I'll be sending my N-400 in June :) Edited by greg1031

I'm glad I could help. Just doublecheck that you do not qualify for citizenship through your mother. If you're eligible for automatic citizenship through the N600 citizenship application, they may deny your N400 naturalization application. I don't want you to waste the $680!

I checked the uscis website several times and I read the page about automatic citizenship. I'm not sure any more. My mother became a U.S. citizen before my 18th birthday and my parents divorced before I was 18 but I came to the U.S. when I was 32 as LPR. I was under 18 before 2001.

Assuming that your father is not also a US citizen, I don't think that you are eligible for automatic citizenship because you were not a permanent resident at the time your mother became a US citizen. You should go ahead and file your N400 when you are ready.
