Mumbai PCC: demands more documents and police want to do home visit?!

My fiance just renewed his passport and applied for his PCC at the PSK on Monday, he was told it would be ready in about 7-8 days. Then today he got a text message saying "Dear Applicant, Your Passport application File is sent to AMBOLI Police Station for Verification. Kindly visit Police Station within the next three days for your Verification" (then it gave the times) and signed Mumbai Police.

He went to the police station and there they told he has to wait for a police office to come to his home for verification and gave him a long list of more documents he needs to gather and it's about 28 documents.

Has anyone ever encountered this when applying for the PCC? He applied at PSK and now the mumbai police is suddenly involved...I am kind of freaking out... Please, any advice would help.

Don't worry. It is a usual procedure: if you were not verified by the police in within past six months, they run a fresh inquiry and you got to co-operate. Once finished all the local police station, a decision, such as clearance, will be sent back to the PSK and you would receive the PCC accordingly.

Thanks for answering so quickly! He was especially weirded out by the home visit part. In India he has only lived in Mumbai and for many years at his current address so it was unexpected, but now knowing this is normal, feels better. Thanks again!

Just an update on this. The home visit happened and as of Jan 20th the Amboli police station gave the all clear and 3rd Feb the report was supposedly cleared. My fiance was told back in January he would have the PCC 7-8 business days.

It's now February and still no PCC. They said they will mail it to him. He said he will try to go to the passport office tomorrow to figure out what's going on. We are aiming for March interview because our NOA2 expires in April. This is getting slightly ridiculous...

The PCC required is from the Passport Office. That does not involve police coming to your house for verification, it is usually issued on the spot, you schedule an interview at your passport seva kendra and by the end of the interview they print and give you your PCC.

Thanks for responding but you will see above as another poster mentioned this is standard procedure because my fiance has not been verified by the police in the past 6 months. As you said, he went to passport seva kendra but after submitting his application there he received a text message saying he had to go to the local police station. He did, and there they told him there would be a home visit, which already happened in January. The PCC is almost never issued right on the spot. I have spoken with other K1 visa applicants and they have waited up to 2 months for the PCC. It does seem like he will have to go pick it up.

Oh ok. I wasn't aware of that. Because I don't think I had any police checks in the past but I still got my PCC issued on the spot after the procedure at the PSK and a couple of people I know got it the same day too. So I assumed it would be that way for all.

Anyway, hope your fiance's PCC comes soon so that you can carry on with the interview asap. All the best
