I've had a shredder for 9 years now. Everything with my name on it gets shredded before it goes in the basket. Or it gets the hose!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

We just got a shredder too.

But for CC applications, don't they require that you enter your SSN and other personal details? Even if someone pieced together a blank CC application with your name on it, as long as they don't have your SSN, they will not be able to get it approved under your name. And if someone had your SSN, they don't need to go through your trash and piece together a blank application. They can just go to any CC website and apply there using your SSN.

Some of them are already prequalified. My first husband died 4 years ago and we get cc apps for him pre approved all the time. I have told them he is dead and it upsets me that they still send them.

Especially scary in little towns like the one we live in. We have to go the the small local post office for our mail, just up the road..there is a bin there for 'junk mail' ...people can throw it away right on the way out the door if they don't want it. I, for one, have put flyers in there, things like that...but I have seen credit card offers still in the envelopes sitting right on top of the pile....ummmm..probably not real smart!!!!! M.

Loved it.:lol: I have called, written letters, torn up the forms and returned to them in thier postage paid envelopes and still have mail from them. I figured they might get upset on used postage for dead man and torn apps. I will have to try your tactic next time.

I totally know what you mean!

I used to get pre-approved loan stuff etc for my late husband all the time.

And did you ever have to cancel some subscription for him?

Like 6-7 months after Rich passed I got yet another couple of books sent, so I phoned the book club and the lady got all huffy and puffy and said 'Its under R.H.'s name, we can only talk to him, its a privacy issue' So I got so darn pi$$ed, I said, 'kinda hard to get a dead man on the phone, dont you think?' So she got even more upset and started getting really annoyed as to why I said that.... I was like 'Well if you let me get two words in instead of going on bout your privacy issues I might have been able to explain!'

I mean HELLOOOOOO??? Urgh.....

Anyhow, we got a shredder as a wedding pressie and I loved the idea, its just a darn good thing cos you never know what can happen!

Best is to return another companies junk mail in their envelopes.

And keeps the posties in a job. And cuts down on your recycling.
