I-129F packet and Expiring Passport

My fiance's Venezuelan passport expires Next January 12, 2016. We are mailing our complete I-129F packet this Saturday. Do you think it's likely we could get the K-1 visa approved by July or is that totally unrealistic? My fiance is not living in his country of citizenship so it would be quite the hassle to go through this process and travel to renew his passport.

My fiancé is a German living in Canada. He rushed his passport over the summer, and it still took over a month. Also, being in Fla, (like me) you'll have to file your I-129 through the Texas Service Center. It's highly unlikely you'll have it approved before July. We filed late July 2014, and we're still waiting for our NOA2.

What Vicky & Fritz said. Get the passport renewed. Based on current estitmates you are looking at 10 months or more to get a K1 visa.

Wow... still waiting for the NOA2? Ok, we will get the passport renewed ASAP and just have to hope for the best with processing times :/

I think the answer is easy on this one. He should get it renewed as soon as they allow him to.

Right now, you are just thinking of K1 visa to get him into US,

but he's not going to get US passport until becomes US citizen many years later

and even after he comes to US, he will need a valid passport...

1) to prove his identity to police, open bank accounts, get social security card, etc.

2) for follow up processing for green card, work permit, and more...

3) to be able travel outside of US

4) ...and I'm sure there's more

And he's passport becomes invalid and useless once it expires.

While it might inconvenient now to renew, it might become exponentially more problematic later

if his passport expires and he doesn't receive AP to travel outside of US until he gets the green card.

Looking at your timing...I think he could easily fall into that "limbo" state unless he renews before

he enters US.
